Set a rule to not eat anything after a certain time (9:30pm)
2.) Only have fruit available for snacking. Eliminate all candy, ice cream,
and sweets.

Re: More Blogging While Brown…About Science

Great advice Adria. That may well be, but the misconception lies hard in the definition of what ‘post-racial’ means. Many opinions throw the stipulation of I’m not a racist because I don’t see color. What they fail to realize is that opposite of racism is tolerance, not ignorance.

Re: http://www.blackweb20.com/2009/03/09/conserving-jet-and-ebony-in-the-digital-era/

The problem with Ebony/Jet, and all newspapers/mags on the old medium, is that they've failed to become an online service and content distributor. A lot of these companies are trying to hard to hold onto content, that they are missing the boat (and revenue model) that the internet provides for them

Let's think outside of ad revenue, because that is a crowded market.

What does Ebony/Jet provide, content-wise, that is unique and valuable? High quality content.

I would say, don't make the average reader pay for that content because the internet model of 'free content' has already been established. What you need is a micro model for other clients. Ebony/Jet can become a distributor.

Some ideas:
- Create a subscription, exclusive blogging network.
- W/in that network, outline an ad revenue sharing model.
- License their content, on a yearly, annual subscription fee, to blogs and other sites that want to use their pictures and articles.
- Provide a subscription fee for bloggers to get their exclusive, protected Twitter updates for breaking news (since print can run behind a breaking story)
- Create an API so other blogs, programmers, and services can create applications that use their content (photo galleries, archives, interaction tools)

These mediums need to get more creative and engage their audience while they still have it.

Re: Recovery.gov: Track the Stimulus Package Online

Wait for it....

DRUPAL FOR THE WIN!!

Re: Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thank you! With pride, however, comes a sense of debt and gratitude from those who benefit from it.

The danger becomes, however, when those who have paved the way don't define what is enough recognition of their sacrifices and efforts. We can't perpetually be indebted to them until they feel the time is ready.

The same will be true when we get older and our sons and daughters appear to be 'naive' of what we had to 'go through' while they were tiny. It's important to remember that part of creating opportunities for others is allowing those to enjoy them without feeling guilty or indebted.

Re: Thursday Afternoon Thread

Very powerful essay by one of our guest writers entitled Black Professionals Aren't Recession Proof.

I'd be interested to hear what the community has to say on some of the ideas.
