Hey, I never claimed that the invasion of Iraq was a Zombie cover-up. I always said it was GWB being an idiot. The recession might be a zombie cover up but I know for DAMN sure this "swine flu" turns you into a zombie. I am not THAT stupid.

I wrote this. My name is Melissa and you can find information about me on this website. This wasn't written for other people to enjoy or be grammatically correct, it was written to get something out of myself that was bothering me. I am not claiming to have not been involved in the downward spiral of things, I am claiming that my illness made it worse, faster, and hurt more in the end.

I did not use names so as to protect people's identities so I decided to accentuate the pronouns by capitalizing them as though they were actual names, sorry you didn't like that but its how it was done and others have told me they liked it in private communication. I am not trying to please everyone.

The "It" taking over my body was an oversimplification of how one feels when one is getting sick from a mental illness and while I do not have an illness to the point where there are times I have 0% control of my actions (yet), these illnesses do exist, trust me, I have seen them first hand. To be more accurate but less literary, my illness severely affected my actions, thoughts, and decisions in a highly negative way. Things would have gone differently had I not been sick. That was all I was trying to portray. Giving the illness a human like role allowed me to do this without sounding like a textbook on psychology. Was I ever completely out of control? No, but it was close a few times.

No, I am not a teenager but I would see nothing wrong with teenagers doing "stuff like this". Our next generation should be taught about alternative lifestyles and practice them if they are mature enough and do so safely.

I didn't know Karl Marx was a drug advocate. I guess his "Religion is the opium of the masses" was an endorsement rather than a condemnation. Or perhaps you're referring to Groucho Marx who once enjoyed the benefits of taking LSD (somewhere between natural and artificial, for what those terms are worth).

I believe that the greater affection for pets by women and children stems from the fact that people tend to love members of their social group that have lower status than themselves, love being basically a desire to protect and care for those more vulnerable. Having less status traditionally, women and children extend this desire to other species.

It would be interesting to know if the heightened status of women in recent decades, in particular career women with families, has influenced their affection for pets in any way.

Certain elements in Brad Weeks' article are true, milk and wheat do indeed contain opioids. However the premise of his article that wheat and milk are drugs which are both addictive and psychoactive is a gross exaggeration, a clear case of orthorexic puritanism. There is certainly no reason to stop eating wheat and milk for fear that these foods will turn us into "brain dead zombies". In moderate quantities, like all nutrients, they are harmless (providing you don't have gluten allergy or lactose-intolerance).

The term "opioids" sounds a bit scary, but they should not be confused with "opiates", the alkaloids that are present in the opium poppy (opiates are opioids, but not all opioids are opiates). The presence of opioids in our body is perfectly natural.

"Because wheat contains opioid peptides, priests in ancient Egypt used wheat to hallucinate..."
It was ergot fungus growing on wheat that made them hallucinate, not the wheat itself. The ancients may not have understood that the fungus was a separate organism, and not part of the plant itself.

There was a big scare campaign against Mephedrone in the British press last year. Some teenagers died and the politicians rushed to ban it. It later turned out they had died of a combination of Methadone and alcohol, the deadly potential of this combination has been known for quite some time. Mephedrone or Methadone, apparently journalists and politicians don't know, or care, about any distinction. I suspect Methadone is too old to fit the the tried and tested narrative of "beware good citizens, there's a new danger in town, it's lurking in the shadows in order to prey on your children!". For fear mongering journalists and politicians moral outrage itself is a like a drug, it boosts their performance while luring them away from rationality.

Unfortunately it's not that simple. 80+ years of cannabis demonization isn't going to disappear by connecting it to the cause of smaller gubbermint. Conservatives are notoriously selective in their focus on downsizing government: the Pentagon, farm subsidies for Monsanto and Dubya's Wall Street bail outs simply don't count. If anything, they would steer the argument towards privatizing the DEA and other branches of law enforcement.
