Glad you're enjoying it... wonder what your high score is? I seem to average around 100K, often falling below. High score is 146,269. Would love to know some strategies!

Yeah... those load times on the Blu-Ray discs certainly try the patience. I
guess it depends on which player and model you have, but out of the two
discs I've seen, it definitely felt longer than DVD.

Definitely like the mouse as well and am not giving it up. Think I'll go the
rechargeable route as am already feeling guilty tossing all these batteries.

I always hold out some hope that this is a genuine issue which Apple can
fix. But also, knowing how Apple is with these sorts of situations, they
won't publicly acknowledge anything until they've collected a lot of
complaints and have a fix worked out, which could take a while. So
rechargeables it is.

I also don't think Buzz as it stands right now is going to lure people away
from Facebook or Twitter. But that potential is new for Google, and looks
like the groundwork for something big. The strategy of tempting current
Gmail users into using Buzz seems very smart to me.

Yep the iWork aspect has tons of potential, and what with developers getting
on board and a certain "v2" iPad in the future, surely the content creation
side will only get better. Could actually see the whole $499 - $1000 range
being filled with more capable iPads getting closer to MacBooks in
functionality.

But this exercise was actually, helpful in shifting my own expectations
toward getting an iPad. Instead of seeing it as an underpowered MacBook and
feeling disappointed (as I was just the other day), from the viewpoint of
"this is the best iPod ever made, plus with some iWork content creation
abilities," it suddenly seems like a great device.

True - could use the bluetooth keyboard. Ultimately the on screen keyboard is the sort of thing that would be best answered trying out the device in person. Wish these were at the Apple Stores right now.

Yes, was definitely hoping for more UI wow - take the keyboard - seems on a
tablet, you can't type with both hands unless you lie the tablet down in
your lap, and typing with thumbs as on the iphone won't work here either, so
I hoped Apple had something "else" to offer in this department.

The apps could certainly make the device. Clearly, Apple doesn't have all
the answers and there could certainly be a multitude of apps for specific
uses of this tablet that fill all kinds of niches. Say an app for waiters to
take orders, or mailmen delivering stuff that needs signatures, or doctors,
etc. But in my case that sounds more like a reason to wait, until developers
get more iPad specific apps, and maybe some of those will have the UI
advances that seemed a bit lacking.

The consternation over which version to get is also complicated by having an
iPhone already. Seems I'll still use the iPhone all over the place because
it's a phone; I'll always have it with me and be making calls. Therefore, I
don't know how often I'd want to take an iPad outside of the home. WiFi
alone sounds like enough. Really glad Apple thought to have no cell carrier
contract as an option. One could get the 3G capable iPad and only pay for
access when you go on a trip.

Ultimately all these head-scratching issues have me really glad it's priced
at a generously low $499.

Yeah. Plex sure looks cool, but I still haven't figured out how to get it to stream content from the desktop pc. Meanwhile, the Apple TV + iTunes streaming solution works just fine.

Yet another situation came up just last night - we were watching Hulu on the Mac Mini and a dialog box popped up regarding a software update, right in the middle of the screen. This meant taking out the iPhone to try to get the box to go away, and then the wireless keyboard to type a password to do the update. Definitely annoying in terms of trying to just relax and watch a show.

Yes, totally agreed the Apple TV needs content - it's the free Hulu stuff that's most appealing. I hold out hope that Apple has that content subscription concept in the works (say a monthly fee for access to certain channels) - but on the other hand, with the cable companies and studios starting to flex their muscles about restricting their content (WB and Netflix, Disney negotiation with Starz / Netflix, Comcast owning part of NBC)... it's a pretty safe bet content wars will get more intense in the near future.

Heh. Could add another number to the list above "WSJ doesn't have the right
number." And MobileMe could definitely be another way to subsidize the
price. Just signed up for another year.

So I suppose it's back to waiting. Really hard to know if $1000 is the right
price for something we don't even know the features of.

This is where Apple's "angle" surely comes in. We still have no idea if this thing runs the desktop OS X as we know it or just the iPhone OS X, or something in between that lets us install apps. Or, Apple may consider the most commonly used apps and maybe even created more just for this tablet. I could see them making "lite" versions of iWork and the iLife programs. Perhaps the development model is different so Firefox could get on there.

There's got to be a cut off point, though, to justify the MacBook and PowerBook line. I'd guess many target users of this device would be fine with Safari and the Apple way of doing things and are willing to give up / have no need for torrents.

The price point for complete lock in (if the tablet runs only apps from the App Store) - personally it's the price of the cheapest MacBook. If this tablet is $600 (like the Mac Mini) I'll cry tears of joy. $800, still get one. $900 - well then the whole issue of the cheapest MacBook functionality comes into play. Won't bite if a MacBook is the same price and it means being locked in.

But we'll see - and then it'll be easier to speculate when we know what the heck we're dealing with.

There are several MacBook Pros.

Oh yeah, MobileMe is another silly one. And I just remembered "Airport
Extreme" as slightly odd. Seems Apple naming was much simpler when they were
limited to the 4 square product matrix. iMac, iBook, MacBook Pro.

But likewise, am psyched for this product. Am glad my MacBook didn't
completely die a few months back, because I would have bought a replacement
MacBook, and hence less fundage for whatever is announced. Will also forgo
an Apple laptop - recent time with just an iPhone convinced me that it would
be possible.

I hope Apple goes with a straightforward name like the "Apple Tablet"
(there's an Apple TV as some precedent) - but it could be named the "iSlate
Extreme" and I'd still buy one.
