I love your photos of the Christmas lights in Florence.
Thanks for including the Passports With Purpose reminder also.

Re: Motherhood of the Traveling Pants

Living and working in tech-land has meant that I don't usually have to care very much about how I'm dressed at work. Today, though, I was having lunch with a fashionista friend, so I 'dressed up' - with my Joe's Jeans.
And then I found this article!
Coincidence ? Or just many mom's discovering mom-tested, mom-tried, still-looking-good jeans? I think so.

Re: Step Away From the Lonely Planet: A Requiem for Travel Guidebooks

I can see my kids backpacking with nothing but the latest version of an iphone or blackberry (in 2020). The won't bother with guidebooks, because all the data they'll need will be available online. They won't get lost (ever) because they'll have GPS.

I'll still probably buy guidebooks because I need to take a break from my computer. When you spend all day long in front of a screen, it's nice to sit on the sofa with a book.
But I've found that for our last few trips, I use guidebooks for research and ideas and I cross-reference everything with online sources.

Re: The Link Love Map: Around the World

Neat!
The map was centered on Iraq when it first came up (not sure if that was intentional or not). Took me a minute to realize I needed to scroll around to see the markers for the links.
Great idea.

Re: It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine

Ah, except every Brit and Dutch high school student doesn't take a gap year. But taking time between school and 'starting real life' is certainly more encouraged in Europe than in the US. Absolutely agree with you that travel is educational.

Re: Photo Friday: Gulf Shores, Alabama

Yay! Another person who's travel plans are driven by family weddings. Sometimes I think I'm the only one: three summer vacations in a row and counting.
Great photo, btw :)
