I hear your critique, but the (potential) availability of this feature impacts me differently. I can't imagine using the feature that way, but rather, to slow things down (assuming the platform can render slower audio without distortion, as audiobook engineers and to some extent, those on YouTube had to figure out, to prevent voice actors from sounding like Chipmunks or as if they're depressed / underwater). It would be incredibly helpful for those learning a new language, and/or who have cognitive conditions that impact how sounds and language are processed to begin with. So the argument is pretty easy to make that this option increases accessibility and relevance for many. (And, yeah. To adapt your metaphor, just because one is at an eating establishment with an All-U-Can-Eat food bar doesn't mean one must snarf up everything on it, setting up one's chair right next to the sneeze guard.)

Best of luck to you! This is a cause near and dear to my heart. I'm especially concerned about developing resources for queer youth who become involved in the sex trade. There is absolutely no safety net for them, and they face constant predation, not to mention scapegoating (on top of the injustices that, in many cases, brought them to the streets, in the first place). The fact that you're trying to pull this off here in the South makes me cheer you all the more fervently. Applause! Applause! Applause!

That is so sweet! Except that I'm allergic to barley, hops and malt, which kinda rules out beer. (I'm totally okay with liquor, however.) I have a bit of a list of people I'm trying to see in the next few days, but if such a get together were possible either before I head to Olympia or after I get back from visiting the parentals, I'm totally up to that.

And your name sounds familiar but I can't place ya. Be interested to hear your migrating-from-Virginia-to-Portland tale! :)

I will be! Arrive Wednesday, leave 30 days later. In that month, I've gotta
work in side trips south (SF, and maybe further to LA and/or San Diego),
north (Olympia/Seattle) and east (family members in southeastern Idaho).
During which time Portland (home not only to many folks like yourself, whom
I'd love to see, but, of course, Powells) will serve kind of as a hub.

There will be a good few spans when I'm to be hunkering down with the
research and the solitude and the writing, but that still leaves lots of
time for social stuff. :) Info tab on my FB has my digits (though won't have
functioning phone for another few days) - which will remain the same all the
while I am traveling - if you want to get in touch (or vmarinelli at gmail,
etc.).

This is within 10 miles of where I went caving as a teenager (and got stuck at one point, and had a panic attack). My kiwi friends report there are still an unnerving number of aftershocks. Eeeek.

Also, I have come up with a super plan for that "flight risk" problem! It only involves your and Jim's entire families (at least those members of same you'd want near) relocating to Richmond. I have a coupla ghetto couches folks can crash on (once I find homes for all these books). That won't be a problem, will it?
