It's too bad that the jabberd server appears to be customized, and not open sourced, as it would be pretty cool to use the Dovecot plugin and the separate push_notify socket on a non-Mac OS X system [similar to how iCal Server can be run on a Linux box]. I have a 10.7 server here that is being updated to 10.8, so I may check out the config for the jabber server and see if I can match it on my Linux box. Only issue is that the push_notify socket appears closely tied into Mac OS X, though the Dovecot plugin should compile ok on a linux box. Hmm...

Thanks for posting this, btw - very informative, and I agree - it would be nice for the push notices in notification center [and the mail badge] to update when I've already read a new e.mail on a different iOS/Mac OS X device!

No problem. :) BTW, after deleting the app from FB, one can't even visit the support page without an error popping up, so for folks wanting to completely remove their Stik profile, they need to e.mail support @ stik [dotcom!] to do it. Mine is finally gone, though the people I recommended are still showing profile photo and link to my now-dead Stik profile page.

One small drawback though - even after deleting the app from FB, and "closing your account" on Stik via their account settings link, one's profile on Stik still shows up. :( One has to request to their support to permanently delete their account. A bit of a pain. :(

The fix has been posted on wordpress.org for a few months: http://wordpress.org/suppor... Hopefully the author will put this into the official plugin, though currently it has been pulled from the wordpress.org plugin downloads section.

Updated to the new version - love it! Only complaint is that the nice blue/grey display option [instead of wood grain] seems to have been removed. Would love to see that return, as I'm not crazy about the woody look. Love the calendar view!

List of mistakes:

1) buying remainder books sight unseen for more than $0.50 a book and having to order $100 of them [after 8 months i finally turned a very small profit from them, but for the effort and time spent, it was 100% not worth it].

2) ignoring the "don't buy" read-outs on a tuned scanner [mistake 2a would be - not using a tuned scanner! don't accept default settings unless you want to run your business with those settings!]. Sometimes it is very easy to say, "hey, this is only 25 cents, i'll get it anyway". But then it sits on the shelf for a year and sells for $2.99 and it still costs me the same to process, pack, and ship a $2.99 book as it does a $39.99 book! If you've tuned your scanner to only "green light" books that can truly make you money, then honor that when you scan!

3) don't assume everyone who's been doing this longer than you knows more than you; sometimes they don't; always take advice or what you hear them say and research it before blindly following the same behavior [whether this comes from a blog like this or a dealer you meet at a show - this comment is *not* meant as a jab to Adam, just advice in general]. What works for one person may not work for another. Someone might be giving certain advice without thinking that they use process X while you use process Y [eg: they have unlimited storage and 8 employees while you're in a 1 bedroom apartment doing this after you get home from a day job]. That's not to say you should ignore everyone's advice - just take it and research it and see if you can apply it to your business.

4) Realize that this is a wavy business - lots of ups and downs. I'm a number whore and waaaay too obsessive about that, but don't look at day-to-day numbers - look at month-to-month and quarter-to-quarter numbers. It is easier to see patterns that way. It is hard to resist not analyzing things every night, but resist the urge! Realize that sales go up and down daily - Sundays and Mondays are much busier than Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Use that knowledge to make sure your weekend purchases are up on Amazon before Sunday evening.

Those are my Big Four mistakes. I've made others, but nothing as major as those 4! In the end, anyone doing this needs to realize that this is a business. As such, it means hard work. Many times unglamorous work. But if you work hard, and are consistent and treat your customers well, it will pay off. Always look at the Long Term.

FYI, you may want to revise the advice stating that you should reship it to the correct address if the customer has a new address. Amazon reads/filters all seller/customer e.mail now, and reshipping to a new address is against the rules and can get you kicked off amazon. The only solution is to refund the book and relist it, letting the customer know to rebuy it with the correct address. I've had this happen many times. I don't refund the shipping charge and i give the customer a direct link to only my listing of the item after i have relisted it.

Looks interesting, though I am allergic to MS products [even w/ free licenses]. I'll check out the code this week and see how easy it is to plug in Google or Yahoo instead. I do like the layers offered in your demo [i assume that they are part of the MS dataset?].

When I run this manually in Automator, it runs perfect, sending me a summary of 2 calendars. When run via the plugin, I get an e.mail, but the body is empty. It's like Automator never got time to populate the body of the message. This is in 10.5.2. Anyone else have this issue?
