Given that you're in school. I also presume you're not studying Computer Science or any program that requires programing classes.

Your daily computing needs are fairly standard: web surfing, emails, IM, Skype, photo storage and music management, producing word-processing and spreadsheet documents.

If these assumptions are correct your computing needs do not require much resources. Although I am a long time Mac user, I suggest you try to upgrade your existing computer, by increasing RAM and purchases of external Hard Drives for storage and backup instead.

Yes, with iOS 4.3.1 the built in "Tethering" option is no longer there. It has been replaced by the "Personal Hotspot" feature.

Since the carriers have the ability to turn on and off "Personal Hotspot" feature for individual iPhones, it is assumed that Apple had provided the carriers a mean to distinguish these traffic.

Then again, many who have used MyWi in recent months; prior to the availability of Personal Hotspot, have received SMS from their carriers warning them of such use and continue usage will incur charges.

Were you using Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or were you using Tethering? Although they have the same end results these are two separate thing.

Usage of Personal Hotspot does indeed marked as "Web Connection" by Smartone-Vodafone as I pointed out in my article.

So true. Hong Kong is inundate with mainlanders and it is seriously affecting the poor customer service that is already HK high end retailers. The government needs to do more to protect the living standards of Hong Kong.

Having been to Japan several times I admire their social up bringing more and more. Most of all their sense of nationality, considerations for others and pride in what they do no matter that that profession is.

Wireless (Bluetooth) Tethering is never detectable by the carriers, it is only when you tether via USB that the carrier will know about the traffic.

The iOS Personal Hotspot is something different from the regular tethering, plus Apple has made it so that mobile carriers can turn the feature on and off. Since this on and off toggle can be done per individual bases, I assume it will not be something the carrier set in the mobileconfig file.

Great comparison of the advantage of owning a MBA or the MBP 13".

I like to add several things to the above the MBP has the option to add a SSD, getting this from Apple Store online cost HKD600.00 (if you get the same capacity as the MBA).

The point about the graphic support of the MBP 15" is that it has dual graphic processing units (GPU) compared to the MBP 13" and MBAs. The MBP 15" has one GPU that has its own memory and a second GPU that share memory with the main CPU.

I don't think Hysan Place will be ready this year. The first Apple Store in Hong Kong will most likely be the IFC location, if the information are correct.

I too am a bit disappointed that the first Apple Store in HK is not a street level store like other cities around the world. At least we will finally receive the level of Customer Service we deserved, paid for and expects, rather than the horrible outsourced useless companies that Apple HK has used all these years.

Actually, I believe Smartone-Vodafone's terms is that all iPhone (purchase) contract plans requires subscribers to subscribe to a HKD36/month VAS (Value Added Service). You do not have to subscribe to X-Power but you can subscribe to any of the VAS packages they offer totaling HKD38/month.

For an overview of mobile dominance, focusing only on the US market is just wrong. That is one of the least advanced market for mobile technologies and all these companies/platforms mentioned have global presence.

Therefore, whenever media report on mobile platform and technology they should be quoting global figures rather than just the US.

Does Nielsen have global statistics? If not, they should produce some before they can draw any conclusion with these data.

It sounds like you got the Capdase ARIS Screen Guard instead of their IMAG Screen Guard. The latter has anti-finger prints and anti-glare features. May be later you can get the IMAG version.

As for cases Capdase also has many very reasonably priced ones. For example their portfolio case, similar to the Marware Eco Vue, is approximately S$45 including shipping.

HSBC HK launched their iPhone/iPod Touch compatible web site, but their "Full Version" link simply brings the user back to the iPhone/iPod Touch compatible version of HSBC.com.hk. Therefore, one is forced to use the iPhone/iPod Touch compatible version on the iPad.

If HSBC does not believe the user should be using the "Full Version" of their web site on any iOS devices then they should not have the "Full Version" hyperlink in the footer.

I believe this "Add Money From Checks" PayPal feature only applies to PayPal US accounts.

I have a PayPal HK account and both the "Add Money From Checks" and "Donate" features are not available in the PayPal iPhone app.

I am a man so I add my 2 cents worth.

I don't understand all the so call people who complain that there are no women or not enough women in tech. I personally do not see an issue. I know many women in Hong Kong and in North America who are in tech. I admit of the people I know in the tech industry, the ratio of women to men low, but I don't see an issue.

As long as there are equal opportunities for both genders in the tech industry, who cares how many of each are in the industry.

Hum... that's strange. May be Apple is falling short on testing their upgrades throughly due to the pressure to release the interim updates. Not trying to make excuse for Apple.

Yes, I had used the RecBoot application in the past when helping friends who really wanted to jailbreak their iPhone prior to the Jailbreakme 2.0 was released. It's function is to allow you to "kick" the iPhone out of the recovery mode, which I suppose your iPhone was in.

I have been reluctant to upgrade to 4.0.2, because I didn't want to eliminate my option of jailbreaking my iPhone. Although given 4.1 is coming on Wed. I may as well upgrade. I particularly want the HDR feature in 4.1.
