I can't figure out how to put a widget next to my content and not within my "description" so that made me take out the widget, and I also realized that the links weren't too useful because I don't link to many products, but that may change. Perhaps I should just put them back in just in case because I do love your product.

Any suggestions?

--Tom

Re: tomwillerer . tumblr . com - Enjoying life via the web

good analogy. i think my wife would agree.

Re: tomwillerer . tumblr . com

It might be a blending of a few options, but good point re: Facebook mini-feed as a case study. Until I (and many others, I'm sure) can reliably stream media from a device other than a computer reliably, this may be a bit out. I can't tell you how frustrated I am that I don't have a potable device that allows me to stream music, and I'm equally frustrated that I can't stream in my car. I agree this is the future, but probably not mainstream for another 5 years.

Re: tomwillerer . tumblr . com

They scare me as well, which is why I typically walk away. I use Netvibes like a newspaper. I follow (i.e. skim) around 50 blogs / journals so I guess it's equivalent to a national paper
2. It's interesting how these competing local papers will have to work together in order to all succeed. That's becoming more prevalent in the world today, but still not fully accepted nor embraced.

Re: Sweet

actually, instead of a pop-up for commenting, perhaps there is potential for two comment sections. one for the songs, one for the posts. and, it would be very cool if we were all listening live to the same tracks (I'm not sure if that is how it works or not). that would give more of a communal feel.

Re: Qtrax Doesn't Sound Very Good To Me

It seems like this is a lame attempt of the labels to take the control back from a. consumers, and b. apple.

And, I agree: streaming should be free and downloads should cost (and on that model, I prefer something like eMusic).

Re: Hello, I'm Rachel. - a thought.

i couldn't help but comment because i think you are close to nailing this one. the other piece i would throw out as important is that too many people DEFINE themselves through their career AND allow what others think of their career, house, car, wife, girlfriend, etc. to affect their happiness. in reality, nothing can affect our happiness that we don't let affect it. we choose. that's the kicker. the problem is that we are so attached to all these things that affect our happiness and when they're good, we're good, but when they're bad, we're bad. it's a roller-coaster.

Re: tomwillerer . tumblr . com - content as advertising

good question. it could work in a cost per click model where the content owner only pays when someone clicks on an ad. because once that happens they will get someone watching their content (which they bought for a fixed cost or revenue share) and each view brings down the cost (fixed) or adds to the revenue (share). the ads within the content "pay" for the content. the question I have is can advertising pay for the content of anything more than a 1/2 hour TV show?

Re: tomwillerer . tumblr . com - the gleaners and I

I think I agree with you. we're all gleaners.

Re: Disqus

The democratization of media is a tall task because it requires people's involvement, and even if people want to get involved, they don't. That's a problem. Disqus will make commenting easier to follow, but probably for the people that already comment, which is, as you suggest, quite small in comparison to the actual amount that read.

Is there a technology that can make people want to get involved?

Re: tomwillerer . tumblr . com - democratizing media

I'm not necessarily talking about internet penetration. i'm talking about people's desire to participate. i think that is low (hence why not many people vote). Essentially we're trading gate-keepers, not making media any more democratic. in theory there is more ability to be democratic, but in reality that depends on people's desire, which is typically very low. that's all I'm saying. the internet doesn't democratize anything, people do. that said, i guess 10% (i'm making that up) of the population participating is better than less than 1%. so we're headed in the right direction.

Re: Disqus

I'm not sure how much you are comfortable sharing, but what are the barriers as you see them?

Re: Disqus

you make it more convenient, legitimate, track-able, and interactive. you also make comments discoverable via search. i would imagine you're working on allowing video, picture, etc. comments. very nice.

Re: Joe Lazarus

wow! amazing.

Re: tomwillerer . tumblr . com

That would be grand. is it worth purchasing?

:: http://tomwillerer.tumblr.com/ ::

Re: tomwillerer . tumblr . com

I had the same netvibes thought...

Re: Stealing Ideas - We're All Hotdog Connoisseurs

This also holds true for taking a new job.
