I often don't agree with him but on this he so right. The republicans are political nihilists and want government to wither. The problem is society will wither along with it.

Re: A Moral Image of the World

I enjoyed this review of Richard Eldridge's Images of History, I am a layperson with a non professional interest in philosophy, history and the currents that shape our world. My cursory understanding of Kant and Benjamin puts both far ahead of the talking heads found in contemporary media and culture (Fox News, Newspaper editorialist etc). Much of today's pop philosophizing is so much mud. Susan Shell’s review was very informative and inspiring. It made me want to read more especially when she says the book would be good for interested first-time readers.

So I was on a hook so to speak and I clicked the buy this book button. The kindle version is $51.67 the hard cover $52.93. This is a big problem, writer want their work to be read, to have influence on contemporary culture, but the publishing industry is stuck in a market mentality that stifles the propagation of this kind of book, the writers and the important ideas they want to share. I am not part of a higher learning institution nor am I in a big city where a public library might pick up this kind of book. I can only read a review on line. As learning, knowledge and education become more and more commodified, books like Images of History will have less and less impact. Our culture becomes poorer for it.

Thanks LA Review of Books for not charging me to read this review.

Re: The unwinnable war: an interview with Zygmunt Bauman

Zygmunt Bauman's leaving us is a great loss, this article continues to be appropriate and timely.

Re: CenturyLink launches Prism TV service in Seattle, brings competition for Comcast

Prism TV is not comparable to ComCast in the "ON Demand" department. There is not much there to choose from. It works great recording Live TV and the channel lineup is good. ComCasts ON Demand allows you to watch what you want when you want without recording all those shows. Some channels have limited content as well, I really enjoyed Fargo from FX but I can't find it on Prism. I am going to keep using Prism for now I hope they can address the deficiencies soon.

Re: Dan Geer - Cybersecurity as Realpolitik | Bufflehead Cabin

Brilliant

Re: Richard Stallman Talks

Nice analysis of Richard Stallman, enjoyed this immensely. I lived in a small studio apartment in a large Mission style home as my payment for two days a week gardening. The house was build by a single women in the 1930's, she died before the house was completed. The woman never left after her death, there were stories of people seeing her ghost wandering around the house. One day the current owner, my employer calls me into the living room and says the women was there. I could see a cloud floating in the room, it was fat in the middle and tapered off to the top and bottom, it just floated there, like a haze, you could see through it. After a short time it dissipated. This all happened many years ago and the details are a little sketchy now, but we were all convinced we had seen a ghost or spirit.

Re: Sound of the City - Francesca Stabile - Behold, The Video For "Otis"

I accept you points and apologize for any offence given to these two great artist, I actually enjoyed the video.
