Everything he says comes out of his own mouth and is broadcast to millions on the air. How can he be misquoted? Where is the conspiracy there? I guess I am working in concert with millions of others to impeach him for his own words. Do you really believe that?

You make a good point that ignoring these protests won't make them go away. But you, like plenty of other conservatives who intelligently advocate for the cause, lose me completely when you throw in with the likes of Glenn Beck and the - yes - disgustingly racist rhetoric he employs and encourages.

Are you, in this column, actually trying to defend this man? And to say his millions of Tea Party followers DON'T do exactly as you have written?

If so, you have utterly destroyed your credibility with me.

I am eager to listen, to read, to watch, to debate about the future of this country. But no matter how reasoned your arguments, until you and other conservatives gather the courage to repudiate Beck, Limbaugh and the other racists who currently stand as your leading lights, you effectively concede your moral authority to speak to the likes of me.
