It is disgraceful that a once-liberal magazine like Harpers actually promoted this cover with the line that Hillary Clinton (an accomplished person and probably the best known female politician in the US) "seems like Bill in women’s clothing." Lewis Lapham no longer works here.

He's basically be a gender candidate running from the right for Democratic men who can't stand the idea of a female nominee, even one so accomplished as Secretary Clinton. I like some things about Webb (mainly he's a good writer and beat Allen!) but this has a high degree of yuck factor to it around gender.

In no way would Gore, Biden or O'Malley represent a real "ideological battle" in the Democratic party vs. Clinton. Gender - sure. Warren on domestic (but not foreign) policy, and Sanders on all of it if he returns to the Democratic fold. But not the first three - they're just alternatives for those who dislike HRC's personality.

I don't think it's Sandy hate so much (though I'm not part of that group) as the recognition of his incompetence and horrible fit with this franchise at this time. He may be a great guy, wonderful family man etc.

David's in his 32nd year - almost to mid-30s. If he stays healthy and levels off at 20-90-300-380 territory with 180 hits per year, he's got an outside HoF shot.
