Many will not know that Ambeth also organized a special event back in 2005 commemorating the arrival of the Balmis Expedition in Manila. Readers interested in more detail about the Expedition will find a research paper in the 2017 edition of Manila: Journal of the Manila Studies Association.

Re: Using JW Player, WordPress, Amazon S3 & Youtube

Charly, I have a blog that over a year old, with lots of YouTube video already in it. I am about to dramatically upgrade my site and plan to add S3 streaming and the JW Player. Do I need to go back through all past posts and re-enter info into the JW Player -- or will JW Player co-exist with my current player so that no updating of posts is necessary?

THANKS for your posts. Very helpful to me as I prepare to take this big plunge.

Re: Creator Q&A: Lee Gordon and This Is Why We Still Sing The Blues

This is an extremely moving interview. Thanks for sharing it. I will be looking forward to the final product -- and will certainly pay for it.

Re: HOW TO: Start Your Own Internet Talk Show

I too am in the midst of seriously considering this route -- with the added element of broadcast live on radio in Manila at the same time. I was approached by a major radio network here for a show on blues music, and I've responded with my proposal to tie the show into internet streaming video, a proposal which they are considering. Your article is very timely for me.

Re: The Making of an eBook: Part 1 - mediabistro.com: eBookNewser

I will follow your series closely. You've hit upon the NEXT BIG QUESTION for writers, now that e-book readers are arriving en masse. Just how do you get your manuscript into an e-book format and e-book store -- and more importantly, how do you get people to buy and download it.

Re: More Insight into Twitter: To Do or Not To Do?

Gosh, that's a great testimonial! BTW, what an extraordinary website
at computer.org. And I even followed you on to Smashwords. First time I've
heard of it. WHAT A CONCEPT! I'll be posting about that next week.
Perhaps you could write a short piece about your Smashwords experience,
which I'd love to publish on my blog as a first-hand account from a user.

Re: More Insight into Twitter: To Do or Not To Do?

Jessiner, I think you will discover Twitter to be useful if you give it
time. A lot depends on the people you choose to "follow," of course.
There's hardly a day that I don't pick up some useful information via
Twitter, stuff I'd never find otherwise. And it's great for feedback.

Re: Exact Editions: The Future of Magazines?

I agree, when color arrives on ebook readers, we will have reached the real
tipping point.

Re: Time Management for the Paper-Bound

Mark, thanks for pointing me onward to your forum. Could you share the reasons for your choice?

I fully agree with your downsizing objective. But doesn't that mean Kindle
might be better, since new books seem to be so much more easily accessible
from Amazon?

Re: The Portable Writer: Netbooks Gaining Advocates

I agree that Linux may be the best choice for netbook -- as long as you
don't need lots of additional software on the computer. If you use online
applications and OpenOffice, you're in good shape.

Re: The Portable Writer: Netbooks Gaining Advocates

Hi, Jim. Thanks for letting me know that you have an Asus eee. Hope you'll
let me try it out when I get back to Manila at end of this month.

Does your Asus run Windows XP? That could be the problem behind slow boot
up.

Regarding the memory stick, I'm fascinated by those, been playing around
with them for awhile and gathering lots of information about software useful
to writers that will run off USB. BUT I lost a 4-gig memory stick not long
ago -- I think it fell out of my pocket when I pulled out my wallet.
Fortunately, there was nothing critical on the stick, just a bunch of
programs, no data. What steps do you take to protect your stick and data?

Re: A New Year, A New “Look”

Ah, yes, Christine -- remember you for sure. Hope we can spread the word
about this blog in the Philippines, especially since it is mostly written
right there in Manila. Great reason to own one of this little
computers.

I'm particularly intrigued to hear that you find the small keyboard workable
for you.
