Not a chance, for Grassley has made up his mind long ago and once he's done so, he's pretty stubborn, regardless of what pressure is mounted -- esp. if it is only from the left. Hopefully his stubborness will come back to haunt him next year.

Given who is lining up to run against the Big Lug, I wouldn't be too worried about Culver's chances at retaining his big seat in DM. However, this is Chet Culver were talking about who, as Fallon points out, has ticked a lot of people off on both sides, not to mention he's not the strongest intellectual competitor in debates.

The key will to see who survives the GOP primary and how many of the disaffected will be willing to vote against the GOP candidate in lieu of voting for Culver. This helped him against Nussle last time and may be the only effective strategy again (Note to Culver folks: if you need someone to help pull this off, my ears are open to what you have to offer me:))

With the GOP field getting so crowded, Vander Plaats may have a chance as the moderates cancel each other out, which would benefit Culver in the general election. But anyone else emerging (say Rants or McKinley) may present a viable challenge to Chet's seat. In the meantime I will bve waiitng for Culver's staff, assuming they even read the buzz on the blogs, to contact me and talk business.

Tying health care benefits to employment is an archaic process that we need to divorce ourselves from, not only because it is unfair to small businesses, but it keeps employees imprisoned in unwanted jobs as well. It's clear bigger corporations are fighting to keep health care benefits tied to employment because it gives them yet another unfair monetary advantage as a means of pricing out upstart businesses and competition who cannot afford to compete at this level.

Republicans pay lip service to small business owners while simultaneously undermining them. Why Dems are so attached to this archaic pact is beyond me. The only reasons I can think of this is that they are beholden to lobbyists and/or unions, who see health care benefits as a recruitment tool. If so, I'd suggest abandoning this so-called benefit and bargain for more money and/or health care stipend.

It's time for Grassley to ride his lawnmower into the sunset.

His alleged bipartisan attempt to reform public health care is only making it worse, should it make through the Senate and past Obama's desk.

Hmmmm….I wonder if the “Iowa Independent reader” may be none other than the new Dem smear site on the block, “The Iowa Republican,” which e-mailed me this “breaking news” yesterday?

This forced connection between Biden and Clemons illustrates the flawed logic in the following syllogism:

Marshall Clemons was caught picking pockets at Des Moines capitol.
VP Joe Biden walked in Clemons’ shoes for a day.
Biden is a pickpocket.

This feeble attempt to smear the Dems is what catapulted the GOP into the minority. Don’t the Republicans in Iowa realize these smear tactics have become passé?

The bigger irony here is that Clemons was at the capitol lobbying Big Health “Care,” which, aided and abetted by our elected leaders, have been pick pocketing Iowans for years. But have they been brought up on criminal charges yet?

Now there’s a smear y’all can run with if this is the precedent you want to set.

Analyzing the VP performance, using a sports metaphor that average Joes can understand, it felt like watching a seasoned, veteran quarterback facing off against the rookie. Through experience, Biden has all of his plays committed to memory, namely because he knows who he is at this point of the political season. Palin, however, had her set or plays (or talking points) on her wrist band, which she constantly fell back on, regardless of what Biden said or the moderator asked.

On several occasions Palin fell back on her bread-and-butter play, "energy independence." I didn't realize that everything could be linked back to the latter. Move over Kevin Bacon, Six-Degrees of Energy Independence is here to stay. Speaking of which, I made the horrific mistake of agreeing to play a drinking game that required a nip for every time Palin said maverick, energy, and energy independence.

D'oh!
