Yeah I think looking at what the more forward-looking musicians have done can give some monetization ideas for other content creators.

And shopping locally - I partly feel shopping through iTunes sends the message to the content rights holders that downloads can be a viable form of distribution.

hmm. that's funny, you were so clear (in your original facebook quitting blog) that my info could get retained, that when I quit facebook, I requested full deletion with an email. My experience wasn't the same as our friend's. I in fact got questioned on my decision (was this based on that my account had so much data and his had less?). I wrote an email that made it very clear blah, blah blah AND .... "I also resent that you make it so difficult to completely delete your account and all my private info. Remove every bit of info you have on me please"

to this I got a response explaining how deactivating is such a nicer option, didn't I really just want to deactivate? Could I have been any more clear that NO that is not what I wanted.

Here's a portion of my testy response:

"I haven't regretted leaving mySpace! (I bet that hurt the customer service guy)
Delete it completely. That is what my email said."

I like the Radiohead model better than the ITunes model. I don't yet understand how much artists get back from Itunes (if it's enough well then ok)...but Radiohead did pretty damn well selling their album at customer's own choice of prices. I know they're radiohead, but people are pretty loyal to their musicians when given the chance.

i like what you wrote. It's like shopping locally instead of going to Costco.

Itunes has definitely benefited from the recent shutdown of P2P movie streaming/download sites--it was getting so horrible trying to watch a film (in six parts) that I finally just paid for the overnight rental from ITunes.

I'd like it if there was a civilization on Earth if only to see the human's reactions. I think one ending could be an apocalypse where everything is destroyed except for Baltar, Six, and maybe some kids and they become Adam and Eve type folks, but that might annoy all the Baltar haters...

O.k. Liza is right, I should just forget about my sister's pre-wedding dinner on Friday and watch the episode. And oh yeah, why go to the wedding on Saturday at all... I think I'll just watch a "Lord of the Rings Extended Edition" 12 - hour marathon instead. Sounds like a good weekend....

Seriously, yeah, don't let me know anything. Liza directed me to look at your post (above) and I agree with nearly every point you mention. You'll have to not say a word, though, next week at work! if Liza and I are to make it until next weekend before we watch it...!

wow. now that's a long post. I haven't even read it yet, but I was impressed by the "1396 words await you" so I had to start there.,,,someone's excited about Friday night ; )

I invited myself to Greg's house to watch, but it turns out he's preparing for his sister's wedding the next day, so he isn't watching it. He obviously needs help straightening out his priorities. Well ,he did say we could watch two next Friday instead...so don't tell us anything!

yep, you certainly can. it's very fun..except for a few glitches. I've gotten ridiculously good, but still have a low ranking because I have a really bad habit of running out of time on the timed games! usually when I'm almost doubling my opponents score...very silly in fact. I'm trying to overcome this tendency ; ) and up my ranking...which means I should be playing right now (or working on my web contract--hmmm?)

Yeah, thanks for testing this out! It's "just" a commenting system for blogs, and adds a lot of functionality to the Webomatica blog with little effort on my part. The voting up down thing is cool I think.

Yeah it's tricky, I think if you're getting good use with facebook by all means stick with it, but I find I only have time / mental capacity to deal with maybe 3 or 4 of these social websites at any one time. Right now it's FriendFeed, Twitter, and I suppose this blog and everyone else's.

I didn't like trying to clean it all out very well so I wrote them an email requesting a full delete. hope I'm not endangering my privacy with all the info I didn't delete myself....

so I feel lighter now too except for that last bit of worry. I dumped mySpace awhile back, too. I'm less likely to sign up to anything else.

oh and ps...Scrabulous is not fun at all on facebook...it's much slower and a worse interface than just going and playing on the site. ridiculously so in fact. I'll be happy to quit facebook and all those annoying apps. soon everyone will realize it's as dumb as mySpace

I only joined facebook recently - I was prompted by Scrabulous (http://scrabulous.com) which is horribly addictive and said it would be a "whole lot more fun " if I joined Facebook which I had been considering cause Missy was having so much fun on there. god I hate it though...spent all this time setting up a profile etc (ETC) and wasted a ridiculous amount of time to get almost nothing interesting in return. The one app I really like is the Flcker which no one probably looks at anyway.

I may join you! although the pulling out sounds time consuming
