I like watching Bill Maher's show but you hit the nail on the head. At times when I'm watching, I see that smugness appear and I find myself shaking my head. I think first and foremost you can believe in what you want and if you chose to call it a set of values that is up to you. My only problem is when you insist on others having to agree with your definition of values and forcing them to adopt them as their own. But I think at times (and I am not one of those religious people either) Bill Maher thinks because he doesn't believe in the "burning bush (religion)" and that in his definition it's crazy, that he doesn't realize that "burning grass (weed)" and bragging about it makes some of us think about his rationality when it comes to voluntarily inhaling smoke in his lungs.

Note: The above last sentence was just an example of the concept of rationality. I judge no one on what practices they choose as long as it doesn't harm anyone else :)

Re: Tiff Tate's Tumblr, New Morning Routine - I love cycling :)

I am :)

Re: Hello. It made me think about the connection that Twitter has with its users to the point it may be able to get someone help when needed. Maybe this guy was able to Twitter a post right before he was taken in. Maybe someone else Twittered for him, I don't know but Chris (thank you again for you attention to the relevant) has written this post, at least this is what I got from it, to show just how people can use these social networks in a way to debunk the many who try to criticize people's so call "obsession" with networks such as Twitter. I personally do not care what people think of my social network use but going along with the idea of content, I do enjoy reading when something proves its useful for the better of the whole.

Thanks Chris

Re: EDDIE GREY - PERSONAL TRAINER

Wow, these are awesome. But I have proposed to my company to let me do a documentary about the soil science department I work in. It is to help make people aware about the company and at the same time educate elementary schools and high schools about our soils management program. By doing this I have opened dialog towards the idea of starting a new position which could use video as a form of communication for my department with the clients who they hope use our soil management program. I am wondering how do I approach my company (a government wastewater treatment plant) to offer the idea of starting a podcast, video podcast, or even webisodes to go along with the newsletter they send out about new benefits, retirement news, retirees, employee achievements, company achievements, etc.? Also what's the best way to research if this is something that the employees and the tax paying public would want? Hopefully I'm not too far off from what you're asking.

Re: A Foul Bastards Tale - RATED PG13

I am glad you took this further. You really educated me on the workings of Twitter and how they have chosen to handle spam. As far as FoulBastard I really got the impression that this was a case of some people possibly having fear of spam and those with malicious intent because of their views on what he was doing. If those who didn't like what he was doing was to just un-friend him there wouldn't have been an issue of him having so many blocks. And then there are those who may have felt that what he was doing (I guess they weren't reading his post to know he actually interacts with others in Twitter) was too similar to what spammers do so they saw the block option and ignored the action of un-friending him. While this was happening I thought it was ironic how those who were opposing FoulBastard (his Breastof Twitter may have seemed degrading to them) began to use degrading tactics to rid that degradation. Such as starting anti Twitter accounts and trying to get people to band on a concept that the opposers wasn't sure if everyone opposed. Isn't this a form of spam, possibly more so than what sparked all this? The one thing that I find that irritates me when it comes to the internet, is the instant banding of ignorance. I have found that few people rarely investigate what it is they oppose. They don't ask questions nor do they go to the source. If you agree with Biz explanation or not, I commend him for finding out what happened and handling it. I also think if people are fearful of spam, then they should make their accounts only available to friends, you do have this choice. For FoulBastard to have so many blocks that it alarmed Twitter, in my opinion that was malicious intent and that tells me that I need to be watchful of the over opinionated Twitters as they sit along side the spammers who will try to hijack my account away from me. Once again Chris thanks for showing us what it is that a good social commentator does when he comes across an issue that sparks fire under the communities that make up these social networks.

Re: Your Blog This Weekend

Ever since I have gotten my "RSS feed" act together, I have been able to keep up with the postings of fellow bloggers/vloggers. This has actually made me feel as if some of the things I have going on around me has some order to it. Looking at their posts also has made me realize that there are so many witty, intellegent, and interesting people in the world. I'll also have to admit it has made me realize some things that has made me reflect on myself.

I have never been one who talked of traveling a lot. There are people who have always wanted to travel, meet new people, and see new things. And don't get me wrong it's not that I don't want this, but I realized that it was something I never really gave much attention, until now.

I take photos and I hunger to take videos of the world around me. I look for new things and hope to catch a glimpse of the spontaneity of Chicago or wherever it is that I roam. Then I read my RSS feeds and I realized that I had not even ventured myself into places to catch that spontaneity. I see beautiful photos of people, of events, of art, and even those of friends and I realized that it wasn't that the blogger/vlogger set these situations up but that they were just there.

I have complained much about how my city needs to reach out to the art and tech community more and I still stand behind that request. But I have also realized that I have not taken advantage of what is already out there for me to see and hear. Well, a friend called me today and invited me to see INDIA MATRI BHUMI (THE MOTHERLAND) by Roberto Rossellini at the Chopin Theatre. And you know what, I'm going. I believe that by me getting my RSS feeds together I have let the internet ,bringing new ideas and people together, help me take advantage of what my city has to offer.

My journey and desire to change Chicago is still there. But now I take on a new journey as well. And that is to quench every thirst I have with all the art, technology, and people interaction that's before me. I thank my fellow bloggers/vloggers for this because they helped to open my eyes by giving me a glimpse into their wonderful, full of life, thought provoking, personal world. You are the internet.

Re: The Long Tail of Community

I think "the premise that companies can hire someone to make their product more loved by a group of people" actually worked fine in the "olden days" when the only form of communication was radio, the new invention called the television, and any kind of billboard ad. It worked well then because people at that time mostly communicated within their neighborhoods and possibly at the workplace, which wasn't far from their neighborhood, and most likely everyone agreed on a particular way of life. It was The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit" era. But you're right that today it is silly to follow that premise because communities are no longer defined by your neighborhood and workplace. Technology has widen the definition and now it is associated more with reaching out i.e. social networks. I think Facebook is a prime example of this just in it's platform (compared to Myspace) as it use networks to show how we are reaching out. I have friends in Canada, Scotland, Pakistan, all over. This is my community. Can they honestly feel that we all agree on liking everything the same. NO. So you need to start looking inside the community and finding out who likes what and letting them reach out to their "network buddies" as if they are campaigning for the product, the idea, or possibly a solution. I honestly do feel that if you try to use the concept "make their product more loved by a group of people", today you will turn away even the person who may be able to use what you have to offer. Because now people are starting to interact in a way that requires the connection of these new networks. If I buy an iPhone, is it really a cool device to use because of it's cool capabilities or is it more because I know that I have friends who use it as well and can share in the experience of those capabilities. In some cases those capabilities can only be used by sharing.

Just my thoughts

Re: Happy Birthday Mom

Hello Mrs·Brogan.
