I completely agree that solutions and compromise to fix our problems are what is needed right now. I would absolutely love it if all of the partisan hackery were to completely disappear from our political discourse.

BUT, all of the folks in Congress (okay, MOST folks in Congress) start their day by looking out for themselves, no? To do that, compromising and 'reaching across the aisle' are toxic actions. As soon as a Republican does that, some folks wearing three-pointed-hats show up with signs calling said Republican a 'RINO' or a 'socialist-commie-pinko'. Democrats who attempt to work with Republicans find themselves the targets of the über-liberal wing of their party.

Call me a pessimist (or a realist), but compromise and solutions do not seem to get you re-elected. I wish they did.

Yes, Bono is effeminate. So is George Clooney. How about Tom Hanks, Eddie Vedder, Billie Joe Armstrong or Jack Nicholson? I'm sure that you think that they are all effeminate (as if that even matters).

I have to say Freemon, I appreciate you coming here and commenting. I respect your opinion. But I have to say that, while it is clear to me that you are a conservative, I'm not sure how your comment relates to either the cartoon in the post, or Vast's comment.

Doug, I couldn't have said it better.

As I said in my post, I respect Congressman King's decision to attend the vote instead of a family wedding. If he felt it that important, so be it (I would have attended the wedding any day).

What bothers me is that he politicized the affair. He not only skipped his son's wedding, he then cracked that gem about his voting 'no' on the bill being the 'best gift he could give his son'. GROAN.

I wonder what his constituents think of that move?

It's the Nancy Pelosi principle: Talk some smack about high-profile members of the opposition party to rile up your supporters (or people whom you'd like to have as supporters).

Sarah Palin may be popular with the base of the GOP, but she is a highly dubious figure to many in the center (and on the left too).

Basically, she is a great punching bag for Dems the same way that Speaker Pelosi is for Republicans.

I completely agree with your point about folks who would say similar things about any GOP President cubbiechuck. But that doesn't make what Glenn Beck is saying okay.

Suggesting that Obama will smack you or crush you if you 'disobey him' is insane. If that were true, Beck would no longer have a show, no? Just because the President is encouraging people to volunteer does not equal a threat of Communism in America. Or Marxism. Come on.

Also, I feel that I should note that I do not hate Glenn Beck. Rather, I vehemently oppose a lot of what he says. I feel that he is cultivating a very dangerous rhetoric.

Postscript: Since when do news commentators cite Ashton Kutcher as proof positive that their wild political theories are coming to fruition?

Think of it this way -- the Ten Commandments appear in the Old Testament. They are still considered law in the New Testament, no? Ergo, if the Old Testament says 'no tattoos' and in the New Testament Jesus 'overturns' law, it is contradictory.

While the Old Testament was written by and for Hebrews, Christians have adopted it as a key part of their belief system, no?

What would you say to Christians who believe that every word of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is 100% truth? How would one reconcile that the Old Testament contradicts the New in some areas?
