Approximately 17 percent of the firm was purchased by the plant general manager and 25 percent of the firm was sold to the Jiangsu SASAC. An additional 23 percent went to the company’s labor union, which is controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, 9 and almost 35 percent went to the “employees of Shagang.” That same year, the firm doubled its capacity by acquiring a German mill and reassembling it in China.

In 2006, it acquired Huaigang, a specialty steel producer whose ownership has at various times included the municipal government of Huai’an, the provincial government of Jiangsu, and the Nanjing Iron & Steel Group, which is owned by the Jiangsu Province SASAC.10 In short, even China’s largest privately owned producer is substantially state-owned, and appears to have received capital inflows from the state in the same year it doubled its capacity."

-- "Government Ownership and Control of China’s 'Private' Steel Producers", Published by Wiley Rein, LLP, Law Firm, Washington, D.C.

I'm sorry. I should have said Jiangsu Shangang Group was government-controlled, not government-owned. They aren't the same thing, and I should have been more precise with my terminology.

Re: Banking Crisis 2008: Repricing the bank take-over candidates

Your message

To: TodaysFinancialNews
Subject: [todaysfinancialnews] Re: Banking Crisis 2008: Repricing the
banktake-over candidates
Sent: Tue, 9 Sep 2008 04:04:05 -0400

did not reach the following recipient(s):

Jerome McLennon on Tue, 9 Sep 2008 04:04:07 -0400
The message could not be delivered because the recipient's mailbox
is full.
Mercury.agora.local 5.2.2

Re: Fannie Mae (FNM) and Freddie Mac (FRE): What to expect on Monday

Your message

To: TodaysFinancialNews
Subject: [todaysfinancialnews] Re: Fannie Mae (FNM) and Freddie Mac
(FRE):What to expect on Monday
Sent: Mon, 8 Sep 2008 20:14:04 -0400

did not reach the following recipient(s):

Jerome McLennon on Mon, 8 Sep 2008 20:14:05 -0400
The message could not be delivered because the recipient's mailbox
is full.
Mercury.agora.local 5.2.2

Re: Fannie Mae (FNM) and Freddie Mac (FRE) now are great speculative buys at below a buck!

Your message

To: TodaysFinancialNews
Subject: [todaysfinancialnews] Re: Fannie Mae (FNM) and Freddie Mac
(FRE) noware great speculative buys at below a buck!
Sent: Mon, 8 Sep 2008 15:27:06 -0400

did not reach the following recipient(s):

Jerome McLennon on Mon, 8 Sep 2008 15:27:08 -0400
The message could not be delivered because the recipient's mailbox
is full.
Mercury.agora.local 5.2.2

Re: U.S. GDP growth beats estimates

Of course, if you believe foreign economies have "decoupled" from the US, I may have waterfront property with view of that particular bridge...

Re: Load up on Tesoro (TSO) while the gettin’s good

Hello tduggan:
We triangulated crude oil prices in relation to refinery stock prices and for Tesoro, our calculations placed the recommended entry price to be at current levels.
