My only hope is they come to 3rd World (Canada). Also, are they going to that big continent (Africa) where the MVNO term is almost unknown?

I wish them success and ...I beg you x-Mobility come to Canada!

Ed

Re: Spectrum Auction: How the Canadian Wireless industry has changed forever

Word on the street is that the reasonTELUS is going HSPA rather than making the jump straight to LTE is because of the roaming revenues that they stand to gain form the influx of travellers that will be stopping by into BC during the 2010 Winter games. Rumour has it that the roaming revenues from the 2010 games will pay for the full HSPA deployment along with covering a good chunk for their LTE deployment...you heard it here first...Entwhistle is nothing but business.....

Re: Rogers opens up on iPhone data usage, future pricing plans

..."Can we move on to extortionate roaming charges, long distance rates and per-minute billing then?"...

Where is the petition for:
- a by second billing and a ban of by minute billing.
- the eradication of the term "long distance" when talking about the same country or at least the same province.
- sending the whole CRTC team members to Viviane Reding's office in Brussels for a few weeks so she could wake them up.

Re: Texting whilst walking is dangerous. Really great show...being one of the winners my comment may be biaised but I really enjoyed the show. Well done guys and thanks for the show and the gift.

+1 for an interview with James Body...how many devices again in his pockets?

Re: Mobile Industry Review Show - episode 19

Very nice show! The best of all podcasts (with video). The good news is the shows keep getting better and better. Can't wait to hear the feedbacks when you're all back to London.

If I could, I would send the MIR feed link to the marketing guys at
B-T-R...(Thanks for feeling sorry for me as I happen to be a "happy canadian mobile user" ...total irony as those words can't go in the same sentence) to wake them up.
Huuumm, I should also put some banners on street light poles to tell canadian customers to visit the web site for trusted mobile industry review.

Well done guys and MIR have made it up to #1 on the list of my mobile industry related feed.

Re: Spectrum Auction: How the Canadian Wireless industry has changed forever

Great article and I couldn't have imagined Telus and Bell would build a UMTS 3G network alongside their CDMA Ev-Do and considering their more than comfortable position in this market. Thought they'd rather wait until LTE is ready for implementation while still milking their existing infrastructure and position on the market in Canada.

I have one question about Videotron setting up a 3G network. Do they have enough spectrum in the 850/1900/2100MHz bands? I thought they had auctioned for the 1700/2100MHz band.

The reason is 1700/2100MHz WCDMA compatible handsets are all but common on the market and I am wondering weither manufacturers will be willing to market quad-band WCDMA compatible handsets any time soon as the rest of the World is mostly using 850/1900/2100MHz compatible handsets.

I would applaude Telus and Bell setting up UMTS networks and hope the NKOTWB will all go UMTS but until every costumer is allowed to keep/bring its own handset while changing operators I don't see real competition any time soon.

Re: Operators to charge for incoming calls?

what a canadian customer say about this, er, actually:
- paying for incoming calls is the norm and as this is not enough, people will be paying for incoming text messages from now on,
- I pay for a voicemail service (~10$CAD=~5£)monthly and when I listen to my messages, those minutes are deducted from my monthly allowance,
- and if I am not happy with that, I have the choice to stop using my mobile phone...as the big 3 players adopted the same policy. What a dynamic and competitive market? (see Krystal's post: http://www.smstextnews.com/2008/08/its_ok_reall...).

TOO SAD Mrs Viviane Reding cannot act on the canadian market or accept the hole CRTC team members (local regulator) for a long internship in her office. Anyone to join me and donate for their accomodation in Brussels?

Re: It’s ok, really, Canadians have a choice. Even Orange is able to put up a more usable web site and store.
Would smstextnews setup a poll on the usability of operators web sites (clarity of the offerings), I am afraid canadian operators would be noted among the worst and I don't mean voice/data rates.

My fear is that the recent spectrum auction will hardly bring competition any time soon in Canada as Martin Sauter detailed in his post (http://tinyurl.com/59k8uu).
