Several agency SEO folks, including Brian Carter, Jon Henshaw, Peter "Dr. Pete" Meyers, Brian Chappell, got together via Twitter for a great dinner and conversation. It was a fun time. :)

Re: All The Tools You Need For Success At SXSW | Social Media Explorer

I have also used that story about our impromptu meetup several times to demonstrate the "vibe" of SXSWi and the power of Twitter. Looking forward to more good times this year.

Re: SXSWi 2009: Here I come

Ditto, Smorty! Makes it too easy to let the topic take center stage.

What if someone published a mashup of public information for a less controversial topic?

There will *always* be information in the public domain that *could* endanger someone. Who gets to decide what information is potentially harmful and which isn't?

I'm not naive enough to think that some people aren't capable of doing really terrible things; however, I am not going to support banning or removing certain types of information from the public domain. Puts us on a slippery slope toward all kinds of limits to our rights that could be invoked to protect us from potential harm.

Not to get too political; however, I think we saw how the threat of terrorism was used to do just that over the past 4 years.

Re: sMoRTy71.com: 10 favorite Super Bowl XLIII conmercials

That UGC/social media stuff is way overrated, right?

Re: One of the greatest honors of my career

Congratulations, Jake.

Re: sMoRTy71.com: High school yearbook photo challenge

Hmmm...I can't seem to find it ;-)

Re: sMoRTy71.com: High school yearbook photo challenge

Thanks, Dean. You can load Windows on a SSD. I believe the Asus Eee PC supports that; however, you are left with very little additional storage. I wanted to have at least 120GB of hard drive space to handle photos, music and video.

Re: sMoRTy71.com: Fourth Street Live dress code

I wasn't saying that at all. I think I would probably do the same thing; however, I might check out more of the person's other tweets to see if I could gauge how likely they are to get upset or freaked out over it.

I think it is important to acknowledge when people raise an issue or a concern (even if there isn't any response that can fix the issue). Maybe there is something less creepy that a "silent follow" and more sincere than a generic public reply?

Re: sMoRTy71.com: D-Link's customer support sucks!

Bob, you're right. It does sound dumb. I had gone through the troubleshooting steps dozens of times. The CSR even admitted that, if the other troubleshooting steps didn't help, then hooking it directly to the PC wouldn't help either. The point was that this was just a line item on her checklist of things to ask me to do. There was no option for her to use her discretion and knowledge of the situation to move the issue forward.

If she and I both know that the troubleshooting step won't help, then we should have been able to move ahead to get the claim submitted.

Has nothing to do with being lazy. And speaking of lazy, next time, why not fill out the registration form with Disqus and stop posting anonymous comments? Guess it's easier to hide that way, tho, right?

Re: Sanjaya is back!

Thanks for mentioning the new ad and the Sanjaya-ize Yourself widget. In addition to things like "building community" which were previously mentioned, two more immediately came to mind:

1. "Mutual respect"
2. "Establishing trust"

Both trust and respect are key in building and maintaining relationships. They seem especially important when you're trying to build and maintain them online.

Re: Sending Smorty71 to Columbus

Thanks for the great post, Todd.
