I work in a software company. Do you realize how many bug reports I get?! :) I usually get around 40 to 50 personal mails (subscriptions, comments, friendfeed etc). Ofcourse, the 1000 is a little of an exaggeration.

In case the sarcasm was unclear, I have added note to the article to this regard.

Re: Bike ride -Chennai-Pondy

wtf?

Re: Sarah Teen USA Palin (Scripting News)

One word -- WOW! Also, that would really be a trendsetter in democratic processes around the world. I don't think any democratic nation has ever had a party that has named the cabinet before the election. People would really be voting for a single unit, instead of a single guy. But then, some could also take issue with positions given to certain people, and ofcoure, the republicans would pounce on that and attack every one of the cabinet members.

Re: In the browser lies the power - Wave 2 of the Google takeover

hmmm... thanks

Re: In the browser lies the power - Wave 2 of the Google takeover

Well, I wouldn't go that far. I don't think google really does much with humanized thinking (the new avatar of AI). They just process lots of data. Again, even their ranking algorithm requires secrecy for ensuring proper functioning.

As you said, we are still far far away from modeling the human brain, but there are companies out there working on it.

http://www.technologyreview.com/Biotech/19767/

Once we can truly map the brain, the neural synapses and the neurons, and once we have quantum level computing capabilities, then we will be able to model the brain. I diverge, so I will stop now. :)

Re: In the browser lies the power - Wave 2 of the Google takeover

True. It is the classical noise vs signal, and what is noise and signal changes based on user preferences. I think, this is something, that has to be built into the fabric of web browsing a.k.a browsers.

What we really need, one unique location to learn about current users preferences (read as openid, with preference/profile plugins, hosted on a unique url for every user). There is a product waiting to happen right there!

Re: 75% of Facebook users are giggly and poke; 25% are serious and import bookmarks ԅ Hacking Startups

sheeesh!! I think this is more a general problem than just Facebook's. There are hardly any web2.0 apps/sites that treat users differently. Not every user visiting a site or using a tool, uses it equally. I think, the next step in the evolution is to bring user profiles, and make these apps understand how the user, uses the tools and change itself based on the user using it.

User based profiles, have existed in enterprise applications for pretty much the last 15/20 years. Web 2.0 apps do have a few things to learn from enterprise applications after all :)

Re: Would You Pay $715 for $630 in Cash? - Joe Lazarus

wow! Thanks. Of course this option only applies if one has CLI access to the hosting server (With svn support as well). I don't think very many web-hosts support that.

Thankfully mine do. I use webfaction.

My case to wordpress still stands. There should be some form of auto-installer for applying these fixes, some kind of plugin, that allows users to upgrade at the click of a button. I doubt that would be very hard to do.

Re: Google Reader sharing = kind of lame

I am thinking a wordpress plugin, that will allow for cross syncing comments using microformats. I think this problem is easier address if done in co-operation with the source for a post. I really like this feature (no, I like important plugins to be folded back into the app (so that I can get rid of plugins) - see Wordpress/wp-cache for why).

Now, the stuff that shows lack of qualty:
1. I can't edit posted notes
2. Every time I add a note, it's a new shared item.
3. The power of this note sharing comes alive, when it tracks conversation. eg. If I add a note to something Scoble shared, then create a thread.
4. @adamstrow - cross posting would make it a killer feature (I can think of plugins for each blog that want to allow this kind of support)
Come on google guys.. you can do better.

Re: Well, this is a first…

Wow!
