They call it one thing and it means the exact opposite.

Every piece of legislation and every federal rule change that has emanated from the Bush administration since Day One should have just been named "The Orwell Act," Parts 1-X.

(Although in this case, the legislation in question is correctly named: That's the name of Clinton's and Murray's proposed legislation.)

My concern is, she's a big ol' dyke. Yes, having one of the sisterhood at the top of DHS isn't inherently a bad thing, but who's ready for the confirmation hearings? I know I can't wait...

You know, I honestly don't think that's even going to come up. Maybe I'm being a Pollyanna here, but, because Napolitano has gone on record saying she's straight, as opposed to being vague about the issue, anyone who brought it up at the hearing would just be referred to her previous public statements -- and unless they've got some evidence they want to provide to the contrary, which would make them look like ridiculous panty-sniffers, it's going to be a non-issue.

Mmmmm...he should have used the word "emulate", and I think that's probably what he meant.

He said emulate in the preceding quote. I'm guessing he was just trying to avoid using the same (unusual) word again. ;-)

ETA: It's also not usual for teen athletes to say "I want to be [player x] when I grow up," or be asked who they want to be when they grow up, so there's also the distinct possibility he was told Yoshida wants to "be" him in that sense, and he was just responding to that. I had your same reaction at first, Llencelyn, but I don't think in this case (especially when he says he might have something to learn from her) there was a nefarious meaning.

I'm suspicious. How do we know that the insurance companies won't take advantage of the "requirement clause" or whatnot, and hijack prices and/or sue people who didn't buy health insurance?

The federal government is going to have to subsidize healthcare so that people who can't afford it can purchase it, which likely means they're going to have direct contracts with the insurance industry, which would certainly include pricing requirements. And/or new legislation will be passed in association with the healthcare initiative that, as HRC's proposal stipulated, capped any individual's healthcare cost at a percentage of income.

We could end up with something that looks a lot like our progressive tax code, in which those who can afford to pay more, do.

If Arizona gets a Republican to replace her as governor, it may make these budget cuts much more severe.

There's no if about it. Arizona does not have a lieutenant governor, so her automatic successor will be Arizona's Secretary of State, who is Republican Jan Brewer.
