I'm a newish reader who long ago subscribed to Sassy and truly think I got through a lot of growing up with The Best Girl Magazine Ever. I didn't know Jane had this raddness still going until a couple of weeks ago. Wow, Jane, THANK YOU.

ANYWAY, I came for Cat after I read the NYT Mag piece and I stayed for India (Love. Her.) and Emily.

I'm also going to have to agree with Nick here. (How sheepish did I make THAT sound?)

I like funny when its surprising, not formulaic. And I really can't stand to follow people that are just funny all the time. No depth of character makes them less funny over time.

I think it really comes back to the issue of trust in authorship that Nick touches on. Interesting observations, and by one who's certainly observed more of this (intentionally and with the purpose of humor-seeking) than any of us.

And finally, no one is unapproachable. And certainly not when they put themselves out there on the Intertubes. Didn't you have the reverse problem?

And if your frakking AVATAR is what someone thinks makes you unapproachable all I can say is....

Oh my good god. I remember the Fish Heads Song and exactly where I was when I first heard it. It was a Marriot Hotel in Phoenix. I was probably about nine or ten (you say twenty years ago, but I'm 27 so maybe my math is off). It came on the MTV and my mom and I thought it was the most hilarious song ever and we would sing it all the time, just to annoy my dad. I thought no one else knew about this song. But my mom and I still sing it. Wow. And I can't believe I just confessed this on your blog.

It's important to note, I think, that you utilize Twitter as much as you play on it. I find it an effective tool to write poem-pieces while I'm running around, especially on public transit. And yes, I go through my tweets and cull some stuff into workable writing later. I didn't want this to be a big "In Defense of Twitter" comment, but it's nice to have that 140-character limited "voice" just as much as it's important to lock yourself up and write long swaths of memoir. They're all experiments with the same end-goal, no?

Mostly, I'm glad you're back. I was counting on you for tomorrow's "show".

My memories sometimes trigger anxiety attacks. But I'd never take that particular drug (I'm on a rather complicated cocktail of meds as is) because I figure, I am happy with the person I am today and without those experiences I would not be this person. My other thought is: the interwebs is/are terrible in this "I wish I could erase that from my memory" idea! Some thoughts of yours resurface from 2006 via stranger on MySpace? This post is like a nesting doll.
