Why is anyone surprised in our greed is good culture, it is the reason we have the best politicians money can buy; "anticipatory bribery" I have little hope for change as the oligarchy has little use for democracy in the "upstairs downstairs" societal model emerging. Sadly, taking for example the infatuation with Downton Abbey, or Jeb Bush's claim visiting Germany (Merkel) that father "George the First"as being the greatest leader alive (hard to say about the second), i feel there is a broad constituency resigned to not say looking up to this trend.

I didn't read far into these comments as my disgust became overbearing, their dishonesty, their blind use of right wing designed disinformation confirms the extremist slide that prevails in much of American society today.
After a three month RV road trip across the country in which I witnessed the abject poverty that prevails through much of the GOP dominated south, and more often than not, resulting from thirty years of trickle-down theories that culminating with the Bush disasters from Iraq to Wall street, I fear the US is ready to follow the right clear over the cliff towards devolution.
One cannot dialog with ignorance and insularity, with a hubristic culture bent on believing they are the best in the world. Sadly for them beyond military bully power we are not, their peers know this but better keep the masses ignorant to accomplish the goals of the few. Least we know our politic is amongst the most corrupt of developed nations the easier the slide towards the undemocratic nature of a banana republic.
This, and a few words spoken by someone I respected until six years ago, a conservative and retired schoolteacher from CA, when she said "we have to get this n....r out of the white house", comforts me in my choice to be, and to remain an expat.
Poor America, in both literal and figurative terms.

No you are not alone: granted Sept 11 is focal but also the venue for Netanjahu's aggressive "red line" posture on the Obama administration's policy towards Iran. Nothing would better suit Bibi's Palestine strategy better than a Romney win come November with the neocons slowly cooking an external conflict, all the more if we are posturing as the bad cop. This smells conspiracy and somewhere I believe our government knows it. To quote a historian responding to Bill Keller's op-ed this morning "We are at a moment when we are marking the path to war in the Middle East. Politicians are making choices now that will either push us into a war that one day we may call "inevitable" or allow us to work out peaceful resolutions to grave disagreements.
Mr. Romney and his buddy Mr. Netanyahu are making bad choices. They need to stop immediately with all this "red line" rhetoric. Nothing good will come of it."

Will Romney's run for the executive be his last LBO (leveraged buy-out)? With the financial backing of Citizen's United one might suspect it is a done deal, the best support money can buy with a brow beaten GOP willing and ready to jump off the cliff led by its extremes.

Obama's health care reform is essentially opposed as it takes one step forward, away from the speculative finance-centric system that was becoming less and less affordable for the majority. In quality of health care we were (I suspect remain) #14 among OECD nations (best in the world only applies to those who can afford) at double the cost per capita of #1 ranking (tied with Japan) France under a single payer system where the private sector does very well. Privatizing collective goods and services where self-governance fails puts citizens in jeopardy by forcing upon them evermore dependence on market volatility. On the right politicians would repeal health care reform to ensure there is no diversion of dollars to an insurance industry heavily engaged in the Wall Street Casino of high speed trading practices versus raising capital for productive business.
If the GOP wins the legislative and executive branches of government come November, they also win the power to consolidate judicial activism with more “Citizen’s United” to come. November is the point of no return when citizens must decide a course for the future between Democracy and Plutocracy. Sadly, I do not feel a majority is aware of the fork in the road, caught up between the broadly fallacious wannabe dream in a country now #17 among OECD nations in terms of upward generational mobility, and right wing dialectics.

There are democratic trends in Iran, the Ayatollahs cannot remain in power forever, unless internal dissent is overcome by the greater calling in defense of their nation and culture that should not be dismissed. The obverse is Israel's hardline position regarding the palestinians, the current government will go to all ends to avoid a peace settlement and the creation of a Palestinian state, such a crisis would literally sweep under the carpet any such discussion for years with the silent assent of a thankful Sunni gulf leadership. There is a method to Netanjahu's madness but he will wait and hope for a Romney administration.

I fear the Romney-Ryan team is a railroad. This ticket means a reduction of the debt will be at the cost of the 99%, the 1% will be spared the burden with ever lower taxation, this under a post "trickledownonian" precept, rather excuse. BUT This means the next Supreme Court nominations could further push the pendulum beyond a 20 to 30 year cycle, a point of no return for at least a generation, save a future destructive process with the moralization of runaway greed and individualism espoused by both.
A few thoughts and a lot of questions on this slippery slope:
Would a strengthening of the Dollar in an energy independent US benefit the 99%? How, in off-shored jobs to feed our imports?
What will replace dismantled or privatized institutions, such as Medicare/Medicaid when all studies show government management far more competitive than the private sector? Has the market managed US healthcare well when ranked #14 at twice the per capita cost of #1 (with Japan) France?
Will the privatization of Social Security feed the next big bubble on Wall St with another blow of mass destruction of hard earned retirement assets?
Will the US revert back to a patriarchal societal model, by first eroding rights? Would this not push the progressive movement back a century?
How adventurous in terms of foreign policy when collusion with the private "corporate citizen constituent" is allowed enhanced policy access? Lots of questions on a slippery slope.

The supposed purpose of buying and selling stock is to enable private or public interests to invest in companies and thus, in a healthy economic system, to raise capital for productive business. But when computer generated buying and selling of shares held for mere seconds dominates the market it is akin to gambling. Not surprisingly, Wall Street has become one elaborate casino doling profits and bonuses to an inside group of initiated who have elaborated innovative ways to rig and cheat the system and in turn their customers. As a result retirees by the million are bagging groceries to make up for the 2008 loss of hard earned life savings.Fundamental change is needed but the options are hopeless, President Obama, first hostage to the legacy of eight years of crony government and capitalism then endured a financial crisis which, far from over, is coupled with an at any cost drive to ensure the failure of his policies and re-election, again to the detriment of those same citizens in need.
