just a year? wow! your tone is perfect. I really admire the clarity of your playing. I have been playing about 2 1/2 years now [certainly not every day though] and have gone to open sessions geared towards beginners. I find that they're a nice balance to the solitary pursuit of solo practice.

looking forward to more mandolin posts from you. inspiring!

Heard your hornpipe playing on the sound lantern page and was very impressed with your tone. I thought I'd see a lot of blog posts about your practice and mandolin sessions but no luck. Oh well, perhaps I'll find some mandolin posts or videos, as I'm keen to find out how you got so good!

Thanks for saying what many of us were thinking. WTF indeed! There are real outrages in the world where people are being marginalized and brutalized in unspeakable ways. This was a whole to do about nothin much at all.

Absolutely...I know boxee are on getsatisfaction but I'm not sure
they've leveraged that effectively yet since they also have a user
forum so the comments and feedback are in two places that are public

Nice writeup on boxee. Regarding not being able to see a shared disk, one thing to check is that the workgroup name is the same on both machines. WORKGROUP is the detault on boxee I believe.

Once you are able to see other machines, the boxee usually has a hard time indexing content on the other machines, and even on local files as well.

The way I describe boxee's current state is that, it doesn't do things that the AppleTV does well like index and play local media, very well yet. What it does do well, the Appletv can't do at all, things like torrent downloads {rocks!}, last.fm integration, and posting recommendations to twitter [the social stuff]

i'm loving my boxee...this really is changing my workhabits on my macbook. Considering its alpha, its hella good!

I think that's a great idea. I highly recommend toastmasters meetings as a great way to meet people. The benefits are numerous and there just might be that special someone there on top of it. Good luck with that goal!

It's funny you mention the nanny. We just watched a Nanny where the oldest child was 'parentified' and the nanny was all about making sure the child was not in that role and that the parents took back their responsibilities.

In this case the parents were more interested in going on vacation than parenting but the oldest child was interested in doing more age appropriate things.

It's a pretty common situation from what I gather.

Thanks for sharing your observations on this growing role. Being selfless is probably something that would help in more situations than not. Can you imagine if the Wall St. CEOs practiced a little of that? How different the world would be!
