If anyone can contact them and "memorialize" someone, there could be some serious pranking coming on. And what happens when I click to a friends memorialized page? How does FB let me know the person is dead? I imagine that would be a pretty crappy way to start a day:

Me to Steve's Wall: "Hey, Steve! Seeing as you just got back from Africa, I thought you'd like this article on giraffes that I found. How have you been?"
Facebook: "Sorry, Steve is deceased."
Me: "What?! Noooo!!! We're a small development shop that works mostly with startups and it doesn't make a lot of sense for us to sign NDAs with everyone who contacts us about a job. We're not a VC, but we do see a lot of ideas. We blogged about the FriendDA here: http://bit.ly/PzL3. In fact, we executed one yesterday, but minus the fist bump.

Re: Microsoft’s Bing Ad - Damn Good - Bing Is A Serious Threat To Google’s Market Share

Laughed from the first vignette. Didn't see that coming. I just signed up to run my fourth marathon--the Royal Victoria in October--for Team In Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Through the team, I've met plenty of people who have kicked cancer's ass. The treatments they've got now are amazing. In the past, I've ran for our team's honorees. But this year, Drew, I'm running for you. I'm in for 26.2 miles to help you kick this things ass. I'm raising $5,000 and I'm going to #blamedrewscancer for having to take ice baths. Fight on.

Re: Who do the people of Twitter follow? The new feature was the ability to organize experts into groups. This is interesting. I know that @christinelu is an expert on China and if she curates a group of other China experts and that's a topic I'm interested in, that becomes compelling. I'm just not sure that I see it as a business instead of a feature. I'm still missing something.

Re: Ginx is about Links

There's got to be more to it. I used Marshall's code this morning and was thoroughly underwhelmed. I kept looking for that link that was going to show me something interesting, but never found it. Bit.ly has a Firefox plug in that will show you the full URL for any shortened link on Twitter, PLUS it will give you stats. Granted, it won't shorten the link automatically for you, but is that really enough of an impetus for users to migrate away from their favorite tool?

Ginx, what's coming next? What makes this special?

Re: Why Social Media Won't Get You Hired In A Recession | Social Media Explorer

Agree and disagree, Jason. Social media won't get you a job in and of itself, but what it can do is grease the connections. For example, if I was coming to look for work in Louisville, I'd probably send you a note on Twitter. We've never met, but I know who you are, you may know who I am, and I've commented on your blog (as of today).

Where I agree is that I'm not going to get the job unless I've got the right follow up and that's the emails and handshakes and phone calls. But social media, if done well can provide the introductions that you may never have otherwise had. I've had short "conversations" with people all over the world in all kinds of industries via social media who I otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to connect with.

Not only that, but your participation online in any kind of discussions can help improve what people find when they search for you. If you're talking about the right topics with the right people, anyone doing a very cursory background check on you on Google will get an instant feel for who you are and what you're interested in.

The biggest piece of advice I'd add is to build your network when you don't think you'd need it. You can do that pretty simply just by participating and engaging with people. You're going to still need to do the hard work when you're out looking for a job, but you should be building the connections along the way. Because who knows when I might need a contact in Louisville?

Re: Jenn Live

Brilliant.

Re: My first twitter post…

Fun. There's lots of places to put a profile. For professionals, it's all about how you use that profile. I'm just not getting the value proposition. Not only that, but I can't get over that with all the frames and the black and the models in the masthead it feels more like a MySpace dating site with industry categories. Maybe add some animated gifs and autoplay some Gloria Estefan music?

Re: The next President of the United States is funny

Both were funny--Obama was lol. You have things in common with your neighbors even if you don't know them directly. This is true with musical neighbors as well as the people who live in your neighborhood. By finding the people you don't know who you have some key thing in common with--be it music or main street--you are able to tap a lot of knowledge and shared wisdom. Friends are good, but when you put friends and neighbors together, you get something really valuable. I think this extends to music, restaurant recommendations, news, and most other categories of shared content or information. Thanks for the post on music as I hadn't thought about it in that way, but it's the same exact idea.

Re: BBQ at @1lucas

You guys need to invite me next time you've got this much meat sitting over an open flame!

Re: Estimate Your Level of Internet Fame

775.

Re: Matt Browne

Don't do it, Matt.
