I think the flattening is just the natural churning out of a portion of the huge number of people who came on board this spring and summer

Twitter isn't for everyone. Its different than facebook, which as you point out, is more personal

But its not just celebrities who get value out of twitter. Businesses, large and small, do as well

The assymetric follow relationship is different and better for some things and some users

Comparing them is not that useful in my opinion
