It may be easier to think of it as "mostly" rather than "usually". I think the confusion is from your example, it isn't using it very well. It should be quite literal, and have context. As in:
"When I am walking, I carry an umbrella more often than not."
So, you would literally be carrying an umbrella most of the time you go walking to make that true.

The radio example, with no context, implies the person is listening to the radio most of their lives.

"Freedom" has a few chapters on China blanketing their country with cameras, and underlying algorithms to detect events and hostility

no problem. I actually waited to post this for awhile because I couldn't find the photographer who took it. I gave up, as the best I could do was find "AP Photo".

so far the glitches I'm getting are in editing multi-line text boxes. It doesn't seem to refresh the view very well, and what is seen isn't actually what's there until you scroll around a bit.

Also, no Java support.

I had gone back and looked at this article on my laptop, and I can see both images pretty well. Jacking up the brightness on my regular monitor also allowed me to see them, so YMMV.

Yeah, you can. I had an old simcard on my last phone and had to update everything manually for this one. Unfortunately, I found the Samsung software when I was almost done re-entering them all. :/

The Samsung PC Studio is a computer interface to the phone. It works with USB or Bluetooth. You can sync up your contacts and exchange media and files between the PC and phone. There is even a nifty little media converter to convert movies into a format that you can play them on your phone. I was messing around with that feature this week, and it works really well. Apparently, the software also let's you use the phone as a modem for your computer.

There's one thing it can't do that would be nice: you can't install Java applications from it. Or at least I can't, and I've haven't seen anyone that can.
