Ah yes, Ron-- now I better understand your post. Yes, take the millions
of military aide, and all the support, including all the stone walling
in UN every time Israel breaks another law. But that would still leave
us with a moral obligation, and moreover, how to lesson one of the major
underlying reasons for the growth of terrorism in the region, --Israeli
intransigence and state terrorism, which kills and imprisons a hell of a
lot more people than the one desperate individual. I have to say I don't
believe it will ever happen. Israel, unbeknowst to most Americans, has
become one of our states, one requiring a budget, military aide, and a
willingness to look away when little brother commits crimes against
humanity.

Tom Friedman has a more realistic take. This Rubin comment is outrageous and beyond belief:

Israel is proving flexible while the Palestinian Authority refuses even to talk no matter how much the Administration panders to and coddles it.

It is sometimes an idiot that calls someone else one. Brooks is just too not-liberal for you. I am also somewhat of a meandering cat and hope Brooks is correct, but I think this election was just a disappointment vote because "change" was not fast enough for impatient folks, and yes they wanted the incumbent out.

We will continue to run deficits as long as we play policeman for the world so the Military Industrial Complex can make big profits. Since Obama continues down this road he now owns at least part of it. The only thing the WOT is accomplishing is further destabilizing the middle east and enabling the forever but profitable war.

We now live in a Corporatocracy where members of both political parties are controlled by the big money of Wall Street. It may sound like the Ds and the Rs are singing different tunes but they are all marching to the same drummer and that drummer isn't on Main street. We live in a world where the profits are privatized and the risks are socialized but only if you are very rich. The economic policy of the Obama administration has been no different than that of the Bush administration when it comes to the big banks and Wall Street. Even the so called health care reform has really only taken on the insurance industry, which is a small part of the problem, but not the Medical Industrial Complex.
The Teabaggers and everyone else are unhappy about many of the same things they just don't always realize it. The rise of third party candidates is a symptom not the problem. People realize the two party system is broken or perhaps bought would be a better word.

As I said they are the ones who are actually threatened by the Taliban because they all have Muslim populations. In addition the Chinese have a copper mining operation in Afghanistan.

As I see it the Republicans are still in a self destruct mode. While FOX news and Glen Beck may draw 3% of the population it's still only 3%. We can see that in the NY23 race. Obama's decline I suspect is the result of a loss of support from progressives, I for one am not pleased. But are the independents or progressives going to vote for a Michal Bachman Republican? Probably not. As I pointed out here the teabaggers and progressives have a lot more in common than they realize.

There can be no real competition as long as health insurance is tied to employment. People don't shop for health insurance their employers do and what is in the best interest of the employer is not necessarily in the best interest of the employees.

This demonstrates the very real problem the Republicans have. This district may be historically Republican but it's not the Republican that exists today. According to the recent WAPO poll only 20% of Americans identify with the Republican party and 3/4 of that 20% are lunatics. In my own state of Oregon moderate Republican Gordon Smith lost to a Democrat because a lunatic right wing third party candidate took 6% of the vote.

I just did a post on this and said I thought Obama's war on FOX was a good idea.

There are those among the DC brain(dead) trust who think that Obama's war against FOX news is a mistake - I disagree. If you are a student of fiction you know that it is the antagonist that empowers the protagonist - every good guy needs a bad guy.

And SteveK you get it right. Republican political operative and president of FOX made it clear from the beginning that FOX would be attacking Obama 24/7. That makes FOX a great Obama antagonist.

Corporatocracy. Good word. Meanwhile, we Rs and Ds (and a few I's) spend our time and effort fighting each other while the status quo marches on. If we were to actually come together and unscrew the government, they'd probably crack down hard. I guess that's why I love the Tea Party movement. I'm a democrat and have met people from every political line at those protests. The media makes it out to be a "GOP" thing. I thought so too at first, until I got involved. That particular movement seems to be more about restoration of power to the people and a readherance to the Constitution.
