Haha, well, the time limit has passed so I doubt I'll go through with it. It does give me an idea of doing reviews of cheap, useless gadgets though. Things I can collect and stick on my shelf.

Rex, yes I've seen many prize contests. I've been a distant fan of bumper nuts for quite some time now so perhaps it's time to show my love for their products. (yes i'm joking)

I wouldn't replace it. I would assume the picture quality of your MiniDV cam is much better than the Aiptek. MiniDV encodes at around 25MBps. Panasonic's CCD sensor and lens are much better. You won't experience the 'wobble' effect when you are shooting handheld.

Aiptek's are cheap, pocketable, flash based, and durable but it will never reach the quality of a 'real' camcorder.
If you want to introduce yourself into the world of HD, give it shot. It'll prepare you for the trials and tribulations of dealing with HD footage for editing, encoding, etc.

So far, it's great. I still have to do a write up on why I chose this camera along with a review.
A big deal killer for some may be the bad indoor low light quality. The picture is very noisy.

Very nice. I saw that on eBay too. :) Sounds very tempting since doing these driving videos is fun and the GorillaPod is far from secure.

It took 2 days. Did 2 day shipping. I just posted a video of a cruise. So far, indoors is horrible as I expected. Looks pretty good so far otherwise though.

Thanks Bill. Hopefully the TX1 blog picks up but I'll surely be posting about it.
I'm currently following dpreview, steve's digicam, and a few other forums. There's just not a whole lot of discussion about the TX1.

I looked into that DIY stabilizer. Maybe a smaller scale version will work but it would still probably take up a lot of space.
Maybe a smaller version of the Hague MMC (Mini Motion Cam) would be awesome.

The flickr group has died down considerably too but at least it's there.

Heh thanks fellas. Trying to convince myself to get a new cam by trying to be disappointed with the cheap hybrid cam. Maybe I'll do more cruises for testing out future cams.

@SteveNYC: That's why I called it a cruise.. Just a chill ride. :) That one that passed me on the right was driving like an ass anyway, cutting passed cars in the fast lane.

Narrowing my options to 4 cams. Sanyo HD1000, Sanyo HD700, Sanyo E1, and Canon TX1. Each have their pluses & minuses.. Would be nice to have them all to use in certain situations.
The major features I'm trying to juggle for priority are price, size/portability, compression, image stabilization, battery life, performance/image quality, zoom, low light capabilities, fast motion capabilities (FPS), and durability.

Thanks I'll look into it. Having it record to H.264 is fairly important though. I imagine I'll be shooting some footage in low res to upload directly to youtube, for example.
I'm somewhat leaning toward the Sanyo HD1000. It sucks that there's no dedicated miniusb port though. I'd like to be able to charge/transfer media without using the dock.

Nice. The executive leather case and screen protectors were also part of the order. I like it a lot. It makes the U810 easier to grab. It has a bit of weight but it makes the U810 feel like a leather bound book when carrying it around in your hands. It's too bad you can't have the U810 in the case and dock it.
I'm glad Vista is working for you. I may try to dual boot again when SP1 is stable to see if anything has changed.

Maybe so. It doesn't have a USB port which is pretty pointless to me since I'm using a USB modem and none of my UMPC's have a PC Card slot. Plus the Linksys is huge compared to the Cradlepoint which won't fit in my gadget bag.
I doubt the interface has anything to do with performance.

I ended up grabbing the very last rev Black MacBook available at the discounted price of $1099.
It's going a test of patience showing my mom how to use this thing. Forget about figuring out the touchpad for now. She doesn't know what to do when the mouse reaches the end of the mousepad to make the pointer move more.

That's cool.
One cool thing about Daily Mugshot is that you can set 'landmarks' on your first photo. These are target points to help you align future photos so you can frame your head consistently. So I set landmarks for both my eyes and my mouth.
