Apple needs to do the same. Sell the Mac division to Microsoft, who knows how to monetize software (though not how to write it), and the iPhone division to Nokia, who won't have the temerity to demand a 30% tithe for all iPhone apps.

That'll leave iPods and AppleTVs for Jobso to wrap in shiny plastic.

Bing seems right on target. The MacBook Air is hobbleware. Jobs released it for one reason: to see how powerful his reality distortion field has gotten. By the looks of the other comments here, it's stronger than ever.

If a recent energy bill can subsidize oil companies at a time of windfall profits, Congress should have the guts to just directly subsidize Google. You could call it Tax-Per-Click: every Google user would pay two dollars per ad-click to the feds, who would give half of it to Google, who would then contribute half of that to the congressional campaigns of those who voted for Tax-Per-Click. It's called the Circle of Life. Have you heard of it?

That's highly debatable. Their homebrewed server boxes are certainly not the most efficient out there, though they have cost advantages and aren't someone else's proprietary solution, which would have downsides.

When I was President, I told the Secret Service to trade my 707 in for a B-52 with a complete load of nukes. I wanted to be able to put that whole Kent State "massacre" in perspective if necessary. But for some reason you can't fit an escape pod and Kissinger's shemale entourage and a full complement of bombs in there at the same time. They said I'd also have trouble landing in Peking and Moscow without getting shot down.

Hey, which tools do you guys use to implement Disqus? In any case, nice work.

One small complaint: the new feature where profiles pop-up when you mouse-over a commentor's picture in a thread is a poor UI choice. In general, stuff that pops-up when you merely mouse-over it is a mistake, and an increasingly common one on the web these days.

This is Mac and Windows all over again: however superior the iPhone is, it's going to be stuck in a niche because of Apple's stupid boutique business model. Google is liable to clean up in the huge mobile ad revenue space because they license Android to every handset maker and put out an SDK before the products ship, not almost a year after.

Joe Sixpack will be able to afford an iClone, and the iPhone will end up in the Computer Museum, right next to the NeXT Cube.

If Android phones just match iPhone features or even fall a little short, they'll still beat you, Jobso, for one simple reason: they aren't going to cost $400-500 and $60-100/month. And they'll probably have 3G. And you won't have to break the thing to use someone other than AT&T.

Just think: a variety of ad supported iPhone clones for $200 and $20/month. I'd start shorting AAPL shares now.

Let's say Jobs was being investigated for murder (and god willing he will be someday :) ). I don't think he'd spend a lot of ink in his blog about how O.J. Simpson was railroaded by ambitious overreaching prosecutors.

People who've been investigated for securities fraud generally don't rush to the defense of people who're guilty of securities fraud.

Spitzer's sins don't excuse the sins of his targets, and it's amazing that some people think they do.

In this case I think we're clearly hearing from Lyons, as with Obamamania. I don't see the real Steve rushing to defend the folks Spitzer went after, but I do see a guy who lives in an environment like Forbes doing so.

Part of the shame of this episode is that people are now tempted to sympathize with Wall Street cheats -- people who deserve no sympathy whatsoever. For that, Spitzer deserves all that's coming to him, just like I deserve hell for making people sympathize with Alger Hiss.

Exactly which innocent people are we talking about Jobsy? Name one. And why would a writer for Forbes rush to defend the Wall Street jerks who nearly destroyed confidence in their own vaunted system?

Just because Spitzer was a whoremonger a-hole who exploited the venal dishonesty of the money men to cynically advance his career doesn't mean the money men were innocent. And when it comes to corruption, I'll take a whorebanger any day over an investment banker who lies to investors en masse to line his own pockets with billions. The only shame is that those guys got off too easy. If they'd held up a liquor store for $100, they'd be doing hard time.

Hey, it's not the fault of the Linux nerds that Joe Trailerhitch doesn't know how to recompile the Linux kernel and edit a dozen configuration files using "vi" to just get his video driver to work.

My entire taping system ran on Linux, and Rosemary Woods could run it just fine.
