I know what you mean and I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head here. We cannot recreate the Christmasses of our childhood...we can only keep them in our minds as fond memories...and make the best of the present.

«The good old days» were most definitely a myth..and there's so much nostalgia involved in it so they tend to be overly glorified.

This computer room is still a mess...but I really should put something up here. G. is a HUGE sucker for Christmas lights. We don't have any power outlet on the balcony...unfortunately.
Yeah, as a child you felt safe...that warm and fuzzy feeling. Now I don't have any parents anymore and that makes a big difference too.
In Sweden it's the 911 dispatcher I guess, who determines whether the ambulance or the firefighters are to respond. They don't necessarily respond with both....at least I don't think so LOL and I'm not sure about how much medical stuff the fire fighters can do. The paramedics are highly trained though...for all kinds of disasters. They are basically RN:s first...then they have taken the disaster training...

Disqus is just a comment system for blogs that you have hosted on your own server... like you have your domain hosted at one.com

I don't think you can use Disqus on other blogs, but I'm not sure. It's really good..

I've tried Dreamweaver once. I was (am) exactly that way too..I want to learn myself..from scratch. That's why I used to do all HTML in Notepad. 'Hand coded' so to speak.. :)

Yeah..I like mine too but like you I felt like I'd abandoned both this and
also other things online. Especially now this last time when I've had a lot
of stuff going on in real life with the moving to a new place and all. I
feel good now that I've decided to go back and maintain my own page here
instead.

Same here...I won't take it down (Multiply) or anything like that. I will
reduce my activity there because I feel that I've totally lost the grip of
all the other things I wanted to do... and still want to do. I gave up about
the webpage though, mainly becuase I didn't know what to write there. I was
learning CSS 'n stuff but I had absolutely nothing to put there LOL. That
was also the reason I put the blog in a separate 'folder', because I'd
planned to have the webpage at rebkin.com but now I don't know anymore. It
may change and I'll just stick with this blog thing.

That's unusual...about that family gathering. Most of the times I've noticed
that most of the Swedes who DO speak English take any chance to do that...as
soon as there's an English-speaker around. But I know all about that
feeling...about sitting around and pretending it's okay. G. held some
lecture in Stockholm once, and afterwards the whole bunch went out to some
bar for drinks. He told me ALL of them spoke English all evening just
because of him... so that he wouldn't feel left out. So different from
here...

Well...I think most of them are going to end up in oblivion... Others, that
survive and if they're really good will start charging for some extra
stuff..like Multiply. They prided themselves of going from charging to being
completely free.. well, look at them now.

Julie-Ann,The furballs are so cute. The raccoon mother will be stuck with
them over the Winter now.. normally they would soon be 'kicked out'.

About Facebook...I guess that's the difference. I have no family and my
friends back home aren't «internet oriented» at all..I'm glad they can write
email :-)

Yes, Zemanta is great..and it's even better when you have it installed on
the server with WP.

The more I think of it, it's actually a relief not being obliged to leave a comment on everything, like it was in other types of blogging I've been part of....Where it turns into groups of people and you have to sort of 'make the rounds'. I like FriendFeed a lot...obviously! Otherwise I wouldn't hang around there as much as I do :D
