It's not hard to get these type of posts published, regardless of the lack of any actual non-anecdotal evidence. These are public streets in NYC. I'm not trolling, but this post says nothing except that De Rosa (who doesn't come across as very tolerant) called the police and shut down the pier, which will lead to her doing it again and again. That's not a solution either.

Re: Cops Close Off Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 2 Due To 'Disorderly' Crowds

Get out of here with saying something is "unsavory" and calling the cops just because you don't like the look of the group not doing anything illegal. Let kids play games and be kids - there's no where else for them. Last year trying to play in a weekly bocce league on Pier 2, our weekly game was shut down 4 or 5 times just because of this overreaction and 'white fear' from their brooklyn heights bay window. Shutting down the pier doesn't stop foot traffic through the neighborhood to get there, it just makes people even angrier when they're walking back through leaving earlier than they wanted.

Re: Behind the Dedications: Hunter S. I was born in 1984 but feel as though I grew up with the Bosstones, seeing them outside Philly during every Warped Tour in the 90s and beyond. So much energy, such strong lyrics - it hit and stuck. My first musical love. Will never forget calling into a radio station to talk to Dicky. What a great band (and article). I have all my CDs.

Re: Beloved Cobble Hill Bookstore BookCourt Will Close After 35 Years

However, a glimmer of hope emerges... http://www.emmastraub.net/b... in the form of local author & former employee Emma Straub!

Re: Beloved Cobble Hill Bookstore BookCourt Will Close After 35 Years

RIP the best bookstore (IMO) in NYC. I especially love the photo framed with No Smoking, the Flag, and the smoking bartender.

We all struggle to understand the reasons why people with our own background and from our own hometown, can believe and think and vote so differently than we do. The GOP have worked for decades to play on the (largely misdirected and unfounded) fears of the working class whites to vote against their own self interests in widening the wage/income/class gap to remain in power. Trump saw this base ripe with opportunity to feed his own ego, dressing up as a Republican (when he has long acted socially liberal) under the guise of outsider/business sense when he's as far from hard working (born rich) caring-Christian/family values (foul mouthed, xenophobic, three marriages) they claim to want in a candidate. They don't believe he'll uphold his farcically impractical, vague, and contradicting campaign 'promises' as long as he gives them permission to hold on to racism, fear, and ignorance. We have a long way to go towards civil political discourse in this country with a vulgar, interrupting, uneducated, inexperienced loudmouth leading the national conversation.

Re: A Drink (Or Four) With Kent Russell

Good book, nice profile piece. But it's necessary to be NYC for not just the proximity to the other settings (Boston, etc.) in the book, but for the industries the characters inhabit, the lifestyle and wealth and apartments and street names and walks and as much as this book felt like a fantasy that could take place anywhere, it very much drew me in to a NYC that I live in at some level. Everything from the warehouse party to the ramen in an ugly apartment...

Re: THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR AKA THE MOST BORING LIST OF 2014

Great list.
