I couldn't afford the consequences / time suck of two bad habits (regular gaming and MMORPG gaming). And after a while the MMORPG gaming just felt pointless (for me, anyway). Like watching a good TV series with a great story and good closure (regular gaming) vs. a reality TV show with no story that never ends.

Wow, that sounds harsher than what I mean to say... but you get my point. And it's quite possible that I'm simply in denial and would love to play WOW more if I could find the time / self control. But the opportunity cost just feels like it's too much (i.e., giving up other games from my regular gaming time quota in any given week).

Re: Having Fun at Work: Microsoft Gamers Event

About the WoW comments, you are talking about it like it was some bad habit you quit a few years back. :) We get it, you smoked but didn't inhale....

Re: Buying a “Smart” Phone for the First Time: Which One?

Interesting, I should learn more. I hadn't thought of (and hadn't known) WinMo in the context of third-party apps and customization. I should look into it more.

Re: Buying a “Smart” Phone for the First Time: Which One?

I recently switched (sold my old one and bought a new one for the same price on Craigslist :) to a Windows Mobile 6-based Treo from a Palm-based one as a sort of stop gap measure until a phone came out that I really wanted. I wasn't expecting to like WinMo, but I've been _really_ surprised.

My only complaint is that my Treo doesn't have high-end hardware (read: iPhone, G1, Palm Pre, or even HTC). Right now I'm leaning towards the Palm Pre, but I have had my eye on some of the higher end HTC WinMo phones.

WinMo has tons of third-party apps, is unbelievably customizable, has awesome integration with Outlook, great Word, Excel, PowerPoint support, stereo bluetooth support (my car has it too), 3G/HSDPA with tethering (wired or bluetooth), and I got it for $80.

Re: My $.02 on Apple’s Response to Microsoft’s Response

Very well said! It does look even worse for Apple from within that context.

Re: My $.02 on Apple’s Response to Microsoft’s Response

The other ridiculous part is that Microsoft spent about $8 billion on R&D last year and the Vista campaign is only $300 million, so the piles of cash in the ad are wrong.

Re: My First Time Using Craigslist

When I moved I sold a couch ($250) and a piano ($500) with Craigslist. It all went pretty easily actually. It could have been because I was in a college town the week before classes started though. I almost forgot that I sold a PS3 and two Treo 600 phones on there recently too. Everything went without a hitch. I sold the PS3 here in San Diego, but everything else was back at Purdue.

Re: Comcast Screws Up But Then Makes It Up To Me

That is just such a nickel and dime behavior by Comcast. Personally, I will never use their phone now just on the principles of it all. Would you use an e-mail provider who sold your e-mail address out for outright spam? Of course I already have my issues with Comcast.
