Damping - I like 'Vibrations and Waves' by French, but there are thousands upon thousands of books that would talk about it, e.g. active electronic filters, dynamics ... You should be able to find a free, more in-depth explanation of frequency response and second order systems by poking around on Google Books

We use a syringe like this one: http://www.umecopr.com/media/medical_surgical/s..., although I don't remember where we got it. Anything that has 1 mL or 1/4 tsp marks will work though. 1/4 tsp is actually about 1.2 mL but it should be close enough if your syringe only has tsp markings.

Not sure about windows. In linux, "hdparm -i /dev/scd0" will work for most people.

There shouldn't be a line break after "jomamashouse", i.e. it should be hitting "http://audio.thisamericanlife.org/jomamashouse/ismymamashouse/389.mp3", not "http://audio.thisamericanlife.org/jomamashouse". I verified that the script still works.

dude. i should post the bitchy note i wrote.

someone parked in my carport at my apartment complex, so i threatened to have their car towed if they did it again. as i put the note on the windshield, i set off the car alarm and my neighbor came out and moved her car. she thought it was the other neighbors' car port, so she thought it was okay to park there since they moved out.

what's ironic is that her spot is right next to ours, and it was empty. some people are ridiculous.
