I feel like so many puzzle pieces have to be in place mentally for forward motion to really happen. But. That's just me - maybe I've just been lazy! Positive keeses to all y'allz.

Re: Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey: Doctor Who Makes a Great Wedding Companion

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! A Doctor Who wedding theme would be so rad. It would be really cool to play with time - write things in the guestbook before the guests arrive, have the best man go in and out of a tardis and talk about how he saw the relationship working out in the future, but can't say anything because that would create a paradox... AHHHHH that would rock.

Re: Tired of Being Told To “Differentiate Yourself?”

Random moment of joy: Ash mentions my home. I believe that everyone who has hurt others has reasons. We are what the world makes of us. If we are ever going to have an impact on crime and terrorism, we have to understand that it doesn't just come out of nowhere - a senseless evil that can be simplified and demonized. It is created, and it will continue to be created until we can figure out where it comes from and heal that part of humanity. You can't combat darkness with more darkness. My thoughts are with everyone who suffered in this tragedy - everyone.

Re: Variation and Universality in Children’s Play

Having read some of the other comments, I'm reassessing my use of "wealthier/poorer". I wanted to say "more Westernized" (but that didn't seem appropriate for China) or "more modern" (but that seemed insulting). I was trying to make a connection between how toys are marketed in a heavily gendered way in some parts of the world, whereas in others, lacking any real marketing, kids don't really care what kinds of toys they play with.

Re: Variation and Universality in Children’s Play

It's interesting that the children that seem to be from wealthier countries are more likely to have solely gender-appropriate (at least from this small set of photos and based on what is commonly assumed to be appropriate for gender in these countries), while those from poorer countries (specifically Africa, it looks like) are more likely to have toys we see as appropriate for both genders (the boy with the Valentine's Day bunny and the girls with Skeletor and other action figures).

Re: Reason #959 to Start a Business

Ok. I've been pigging out on Ash's encouragement to write better copy and to find ways to live a more fulfilling life by starting your own business - but I just haven't been able to make the leap of faith. I'm a freelancer working for startups. I always think how lucky I am (even knowing the downsides of freelancing) because I'm the only one here that gets to go home and have a life. Everyone else who is running a business, trying to get a startup off the ground, is working 80+ hour weeks, basically begging for investment, usually for a questionably useful idea, for the possibility that the company will succeed (and most of them don't). This sounds entirely different from the business ventures that Ash is describing. So here's my question - is there a difference? Are there articles or resources I should be looking at to better understand why starting a business doesn't involve more suffering than satisfaction? Thanks in advance!

Re: Wedding Pros to Know

Love seeing a highlight on the best vendors out there!

Re: It’s Friday! 3 Things To Make Your Day EVEN BETTER.

And by the way, it was great to watch your video! Even though you talk a lot about emotions, I also got the vibe that you perhaps had no vulnerable side - which is generally not true about anyone, and is often the un-examined assumption about anyone with as much confidence as you. It was great to hear you talk about what really matters to you in the interview.

Re: It’s Friday! 3 Things To Make Your Day EVEN BETTER.

I think it's more the thought that counts here Ash, but here's a video of questionable quality and entertainment value, wherein I offer 2 metric tons of honesty about why I do what I do: http://www.youtube.com/watc... - I don't expect you to watch it (it's 20 minutes of me babbling for a start), but I wanted to post a link in thanks for your regularly honesty in this blog.

Re: Late-Blooming Musicians (By a Late-Blooming Musician)

It's so interesting to read your characterization of how being a late-bloomer affected you. I have the opposite problem! Because I started late, I KNOW I'm bad, so I've been scared shitless of showing anyone my work or being even remotely confident since I started. I study people like you (really anyone who is clearly new or not highly skilled but has absolutely no fear), and I keep trying to be more like you. I'm both envious and admiring of people who just do what they love without worrying about the rest. <3

Re: http://www.everybodytosafety.com/post/35797640971

I don't know Allison personally, but she is my authenticity hero. There may have been more than one previous instance of the normal-tumblr-girl-versus-blonde-hottie-bimbo-plus-list-of-characteristics graphic, but the one I saw went through Tumblr about a year ago. I reblogged it, noticing it was getting a huge amount of debate: http://themuckofages.tumblr...

Mostly this is interesting from the "fanthropology" perspective - while beekkake's meme blew up overnight, the discussion had likely been going on and influencing people's thoughts for quite awhile. So did it really happen overnight? Fascinating stuff. GREAT post, btw!

Re: Stunning Scenes from Bridal Market | OneWed

I hate to say it, but these are a lot more interesting to me because of the Instagram-style photos. :)

Re: Weddings Inspired by Art | OneWed

Had to do a search for this. Totally fashion illiterate here).
