But let's not forget, the arguments for working "inside" or "outside" the system were raging even then, and kids who came of age when MLK was preaching nonviolent resistance weren't entirely happy with later developments.

There is a valid issue here, but it's not the one being raised by Psychogeezer and Talibunny. Nothing new there, either...

@JNOV: I'm very fond of that old commenting system, especially since I spent a Very Long Day adapting and designing it for CP. It does what we need it to do, and nothing else.

At far as the new Watering Hole, I'll be devoting my full attention to the new joint starting Thursday, with a final post here to Formally Announce what I've Substantially Leaked.

But I'm regarding it as an amicable separation (unlike, um, the last time), and I don't want to force anyone to declare their allegiance either way. Nothing wrong with partying at both joints.

(And yes, you have to create a new account at the new joint. I hope that's the last time everyone has to be dragged through the registration muck...)

The new joint isn't running on WordPress servers, and the "ClickPass" login doesn't work because I don't have the necessary software to run it. So you may have to create a "fresh" account there. It's annoying, but I don't have a solution for that yet.

@necro: The CP subscriber info is still there, far as I know, but I'm not doing this with their knowledge or blessing (more on that later...), so I'm not comfy migrating their user database.

To leak more about my intentions, anyone posting at CP is welcome to post at the new joint, or both joints, or neither. Set up your account at the Mystery Date link, and I'll flip the necessary switches.

@cb: The mothership is reading from the database fine, but you can't write to it -- you can't even save a draft of a post right now. The comments still work there because Disqus keeps them in its own database, far from the madding hamsters.

That’s what happened in the savings and loan crisis: the feds took over ownership of the bad banks, not just their bad assets. It’s also what happened with Fannie and Freddie. (And by the way, that rescue has done what it was supposed to. Mortgage interest rates have come down sharply since the federal takeover.)

Makes sense to a financial illiterate like me. If the we provide the capital, we should act like capitalists.
