Odd, to see how precarious the whole thing is. But what can a punk rock artist do? You plug away because you must and because you love it. Glad to see you fighting for your dream. I’ll def pick up your book, a signed copy, I hope. As soon as I clear Dec rent. 😄

Re: An open letter to past friends, so-called enemies and the legion of silent frenemies

Ah i've got to check what email is attached to the ole disqus acct because I never got this reply. But we reconnected anyway. Yeah, I agree that anger...has a purpose but I'm not looking to be angry all the time. As little as possible actually! Life is short and I'm getting older. As far as how badly things got fractured in many groups...it wasn't just us or fate. There's agents sowing chaos out here too, and even if ppl don't realize it or find them, the effects still are real. Gotta be true to yourself, and they have less power.

Re: An open letter to past friends, so-called enemies and the legion of silent frenemies

I can't speak for anyone else, obviously, but there's no bad blood from me. In fact, I was thinking of asking for your address recently. But then I got realistic and remembered how terrible I am at writing letters to the people who already expect them from me. So I dropped that thought. Anyway, I miss the days we used to rap. And I miss the days I used to rap with a lot of people online. I agree that there once was something that no longer is out there. But I think the moments of friendship that happened were real and remain. Anyway. Órale! You know where I am on Twitter. And on Facebook I'm not hard to find. Later, holmes.

Re: Vote: Who won the first presidential debate?

Liars both.

Re: You unfollowed me? A company cannot continue to sell a product for a low price if the cost of their labor suddenly shoots up."

Spoken like a filthy rich CEO's best pal. Because the logic only holds if we assume CEOs need to be superwealthy, instead of also considering the living wages of those who make their company work. There is a deep perversion in this nation, and the way we see humans.

Re: Will the real alternative press please stand up?

(OK, nearly pointless addendum; I also use Twitter during the day as I work because I work with video, which has sporadic but regular render times that leave me staring at a screen, so dipping into Twitter is good for that....)

Re: Will the real alternative press please stand up?

The move away from/death of blogging really disappointed me. I was out there when shit was blazing away in 06, 07, 08, and there really felt like a community of bloggers happening. Granted, there were separations, and different groups had their different circles, but it was strong. And at least some of us, I was one, had our own servers, so you weren't as controlled/confined by you are on these free services/ad machines posing as community resources. Seeing people move, in droves, to a i-dont-need-to-have-an-attention-span service like Twitter was sad. And its kind of funny how people will pump out thirty tweets, use another 'free' service then, to 'Storify' them...back into a longer piece of writing! wtf. Why didn't we just stay in blogs? Because people want to 'be' together, like a big TV lounge room, to sit together and yammer about news and stuff. Okay. Not invalid. And nobody can deny that Twitter is a big part of culture, pop culture, political culture now. But I miss when people had their own joints, and everyone read each other, and everyone commented on blogs. On the other hand, as you say, when I realized a while ago that skulkers were just reading to steal, I cut back a lot.

Oh well. Blogs wouldn't have lasted. Nothing lasts. If aging has taught me anything, its that everything keeps moving. Once you give up flexing and bending, and decided to stay stuck to your thing, the world moves on without you. That might not be a bad thing, really.

News? I don't really worry about it. I can't keep away from it. It finds me. I don't go to sites, alt site, I just read Twitter. People share news. That's enough for me. Most of the time its mind numbing bs anyway.

I guess I don't get quite as bent up by Twitter and all this stuff as I could because it's not where the locus of my nourishment lies. It's ...just a side activity. Mostly, I'm about my art, my video, my writing, my family, my martial arts. That's what feeds my soul. News, twitter, etc...eh. That's what I use to pass the time when I'm not in the mood for a movie. It seems like I'm there a fair amount, but really I'm there at 5 am when I first wake up (8 am for the East Coast) and its dark and I don't wanna get out of bed...or at night when I'm just being lazy on the couch. If Twitter died, I'd just do something else in that time. And news? I've been mostly sidelining it since the 90s.

Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself, the quiet, records, and so on. Sounds like a good move.

Re: Must the show go on?

Sorry to hear about the death in the family, man.

Re: If I want your opinion…

I had a comment. Then I deleted it because it gave me deja vu. Then I entered a new one. And still felt I was adding nothing original. So I'm left with not much to say. Only nod. It's still a shitload of people.

Re: 2016 and the thought police. Found them in '93 or so, maybe '94. Missed your IG diatribe, wish I hadn't. I thirst for honest writing, there's so little online. Parade of ego mostly.

I can't even get into the normal time-wasting shit I did for so long. Feels empty. Having a hard time relating to people mostly. Not in an 'I'm better than you' way, just in a "this is wtf you want to talk about all day?" and an 'not sure we're feeling the world the same' kind of way. S'all good. Glad for it really. I was doing a lot of kidding myself for a while.

I think something really broke for me when I realized recently that people just mostly are out here for themselves. Most just don't give a shit about you. Everyone on a pedestal they've fashioned, as if a trophy you are lucky to behold. When that hit me--and it was when I was reaching out to silence, aside from a tweet or two from friends--I just said, whoa. Okay. Well, go 'head an' get it, then. Likewise, I need to tend to what matters to me.

I'm happy cuz I'm closing in an a fiction novel that has been haunting
me for a bit. Put it down last year for a couple reasons, but probably mostly because I was psyching myself out about the ending. But then when I get tired of the closed loop cacophony of social media, I picked it up again. And realized I had a damn good story.

So that's what I'm on today. And when I'm finished with this, I'll take a few weeks away so i can do an edit without being so mired in it. Fresh eyes n all.

I think my next book is a collection of short stories. I been banging on these novels. It's an exhausting format, tho I love it. Poetry is cool, too. Bursts, rants, clues, mantras. Freeing. Hope you're enjoying.

Re: A Poet Laureate's Life: Juan Felipe Herrera

Must hurt. I really don't
like drawing things realistically...I feel like what is the point? Real
things look real already. I am not here to mimic. But when I began there
was all that pressure you spoke of. Tho I do think we kind of need
first to learn to look for perspective, the way light behaves on real
objects and so on.
