I try to avoid discussing politics here because of my position, but your thoughts remind me of an excellent piece Jay Rosen wrote about this issue of truth and lies, suggesting what he thinks the McCain strategy might be:

Strategy: Comes from Bush, the younger. When realities uncovered are directly in conflict with prior claims, consider the option of keeping the claims and breaking with reality. Done the right way, it’s a demonstration of strength. It dismays and weakens the press. And it can be great theatre.

His blog post is here: http://journalism.nyu.edu/pubzone/weblogs/press...

Re: Contact

todd,
I was listening to npr's critique of vp sarah palin's acceptance speech on last night at the RNC and all the half truths she spouted were quickly blown out of the water by one of npr's investigators that has a truth meter in his office or on his desk somewhere. My problem is she knew that some of her rantings were untrue and she continued to go on and on much to the delight of the crowd. Incidently, one of John Mccain's untrue ads just ran in my local area. My question is did she and he have the same speech writer? I simply cannot understand how lies and inuendo can be believed even by absentminded republicans. To imply that Barack hasn't passed or help pass any major legislation or his community service is unworthy of character contributions of any kind is like burying your head in the sand. I am a c-span junkie and will be calling in to the Washington Journal to air my disgust.
