it's ultimately a reputation issue and reputation is everything in the VC
business

I do plenty of things out of altruism, but investing my LP's capital is not one of them. We invest in NYC because we make money doing that. And right now, it appears that we are making a lot of money doing that

We are also doing extremely well in SF (we don't have any companies on the peninsula).

We think NYC and SF are the two best web startup hotbeds right now. I'd put seattle, boston, and socal right after them. Boulder and Austin also are interesting. But we can't be everywhere as much as we'd like to be. We are also testing the waters in europe, particulalry london

I don't have a great answer to your last question. At a minumum, I'd visit one frequently and maybe put one or more employees in one

That's all true andy and I speak from experience as one who has a lot of capital confiscated every year. But I love this city more than I love capital so it works for me

That fight was between arrington and the ceo of offerpal, not zynga

But it is true that arrington did go after zynga last week on his blog for things they and their lead gen partners have done relating to questionable lead gen offers

In many ways it was a good thing as it caused zynga to have some hard discussions with their lead gen partners

I think it will be a good thing for the social gaming industry long term, but I also think zynga was unfairly singled out in the process
