However, having to re-install the browser to make it fast again is not an experience I share and quite frankly it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Contact me if you feel like troubleshooting this issue. ataferner at gmail

Re: Idiosyncratic Routine - Stewart v. Cramer: Some Thoughts

I think my point was that I never really thought of the people on CNBC anchor desks as journalists any more than I think of the talking head anchors on CNN as journalists. They're commentators at best, biological segues between topics at worst. That so many CNBC personalities constantly give their opinion should tip anyone off right away that they are not watching a report, but rather a dialogue. What I think Stewart did so right was to point out that the network presents what they do as "financial news," which it's not. Should we have a financial news network? Sure, but who would watch? Certainly not Joe Main Street. Financial Analysis is as complicated as it is boring. (And I love it.) We live in an infotainment society; being affronted by this realization after the fact is kind of dumb.

Re: http://idiosyncratic-routine.com/post/83609103

I knew you were going to say that. They are simply entering a new market others have already proven to be viable. I also really don't see how this reinforces the idea of the web browser as an Operating System. Both Exchange and Sharepoint already exist, there is no news here regarding browsers. Microsoft is entering the hosting business for now. We have yet to see how or if this affects the development of future Exchange and Sharepoint versions. Now, I'm not ruling out that what you are saying may not ultimately prove to be correct, but for me its a little too early to make such predictions based on the information contained in the article. On the other hand I would say for Microsoft to remain relevant in the future they actually have to enter this model, so it wouldn't really surprise me if we are seeing the initial change.

Re: twice-refried news | Microsoft on the cloud: Sharepoint and Exchange go Online

Well, I actually don't see anything revolutionary here. Microsoft is simply starting to compete with others such as Mi8 and Intermedia who have been offering the same services for some time already. Obviously Microsoft does have an advantage since they own Exchange and Sharepoint. I was signed up for the beta and it didn't exactly blow me away.

Re: twice-refried news | Solar power game-changer: 'Near perfect' absorption of sunlight, from all angles

Nice! Despite EA insisting the contrary over the phone, Spore cannot be compared to World of Warcraft. Spore is a single player game with added online functionality to allow people to upload and share user created content. I just can't justify paying for another full license to a single player game, just so I can upload my creatures using a separate spore.com account. Especially since I'm already kind of bored of the game as is.

Re: Idiosyncratic Routine - This is pretty much every Friday for me.

But, well, I guess that's something I have to get used to. Since I've long wanted to get my Masters or PhD in a Poetry related topic (depending on where the MBA falls... not that I'm an overachiever or anything), I registered poetrytrends.org for my inevitable statistical web 2.0 (3.0?) analysis of poetry thesis lol. But, since that's a way off, maybe I'll throw up some more writing up on that domain in the meantime. FYI I think it's very important to state that regulation, censorship, or abandoning the chat concept for the future is completely antithetical to what the conference stands for. Sure, there were a few "iffy" statements that would have been removed from a moderated IRC channel (i.e. public communication forum), but those statements had nothing to do with the "girl" stuff. My only wish was that the girls in the room had picked up a voice and said something; staked their claim. The silence was my only issue. =)

Re: Idiosyncratic Routine - c|net Coverage of Johnny Long: EPIC FAIL

Agree, esp. the fear-mongering in the Rambam article. A twittergasm should be CAUSED by twitter, not just reported on it. I mean, what they're talking about should be called tweetgasm or something! I couldn't think of anything with a better ring to it, but I'm sure someone can. Besides - who the hell is tweeting that kind of information?
