Pretty much all of that was lost in the remake, although to their credit they kept it kind of sick.

Really, the moral of the story is that slasher villain backstories really take away from the scariness of the film. I can safely say there's no exception to this.

Re: Trailer Park Tuesdays (10/11 – 10/17)

Ok, I will say this. Now that I've seen the "Adventures of Power" trailer, I'm kind of anxious to see that one as well. It looks goofy as hell, but it has fricken RUSH in the trailer!!

Re: Episode 33: Noel Noir

In the remake, they add a weird yellow skin disease to billy, which turns
out to be really ridiculous. Up, while a "better" movie, had ridiculous character designs set against realistic backdrops. In fact, the little girl in the beginning of Up looks like a younger version of that reporter in the image above.

Just playin' devil's advocate here. I personally think the film will be what it is and will be fun for everyone who goes. But how different is the story actually going to be from the original source material? I'm curious to get more of your thoughts on this.

Re: You Basterds!!

How were the performances? From the trailers it kind of looked like all we were going to get was Brad Pitt with a bad accent and Eli Roth's (non) acting. How much did it differ from the trailer, even? I know just based off the trailer it didn't seem like it was going to be much and I'm curious to see how it and the film compare.

Re: On Fraud and Credit Cards

Yeah, I've definitely considered filling out the forms at one time or
another. On a basic level, these films are still films and are bound by a lot of the rules of the medium. Amping up the drama is just a fraction of those rules, as is tailoring to a specific demographic. If ya want real and "truthy," go watch documentaries. :)

Re: Episode 26: Blow’d Up

That's definitely Light from Death Note!

Re: Episode 20: Fah Q

I know we're buds and all, Tom, but I don't find this movie as great as you said it was. :)

Re: Episode 21: It’s Really A Super Scope

Whatever, man. Sometimes these shows really do go wild with their freedoms to the detriment of the story, which almost makes the case for restricting the writers in what they can and can't write into their shows.

Re: On Cheap Asses And Pandora

While I agree with that, I'd have to argue that every service on the web we use is entitled to compensation from it's users if they so felt inclined to ask. There's not a single web service out there that isn't deserving of our money. Pandora, Last.FM, twitter, facebook, google anything, linkedin, livejournal, all these web services have a lot of value to their users and with that I would say that their mere existence DOES merit revenue.

But yeah, in the meatspace, just existing doesn't entitle anyone to revenue.

Re: On Cheap Asses And Pandora

I'm not sure I see how the two statements contradict. The first suggests that they (pandora) should get compensation for a service that they created that has considerable value to a lot of people who use it. You wouldn't work at your job if you weren't getting paid, correct? To the makers of Pandora, this isn't a hobby, this is a job. They shouldn't have to bite the bullet just so any shmoe can listen to music for free.

The second statement addresses this idea that a lot of people have that they shouldn't have to pay for services like this. When it comes down to it, all these free services that we use don't HAVE to be free. These companies have to monetize somehow or disappear. By thinking we in fact "deserve" free shit is where the real sin lies.

Re: On Tumblr

Following! :)
