I've had to do some research on Camilo Torres Restrepo. Thank you for name dropping, it keeps me on my toes.

I confess I have embarrassingly little knowledge of the history of the Central and South Americas. From what little I have learned, I tend to lean towards what Cesar has said - some great ideas have come out of the liberation theology movement (which seems to have stemmed, at least partially, from the ideas this mural depicts), but that there are some not insignificant issues with the ideology as well.

I've personally found Africa to be an encouragement, particularly seeing how grassroots Christian response has brought change to countries such as Uganda and Liberia - but not through violent revolution or resistance. In fact, the problems are the 'Christ' followers who go off on their crusades - take the LRA in the DRC/Uganda region for example.

Still digging, let me know if you have any suggestions for further reading/learning.

Well, those murals were painted decades before liberation theology was a reali idea. In Universidad Nacional de Colombia is a big painting of Ernesto Che Guevara. In front of it, is a big one of Camilo Torres Restrepo.

This reminds me a grandson of a General called Carlos Prats, who was tortured and assesinated under Pinochet´s regime. About 2 years ago Pinochet died, and Prat's grandson spat on his face at the funeral.

Without losing our usual approach, It would be really interesting to have discussions with conservative evangelicals, as well as other important groups. What could Dawkins et al say about christians like Shane Claiborne et al?
