You can also note that Curt Hanson DOUBLED the margin of victory he had compared to John Whitaker when he was first elected. Whitaker won by just over 50 votes when he was first elected.

This is a swing district that was carried by Obama in a HIGH turnout year. Hanson ran the better campaign and it shows in the results.
