I apologize for the inconvenience. There was a bug in the importer around 25 days ago that has since been fixed. I'd love it if you could give IntenseDebate another try. In the least, please give the import another try so we can get you all of your comments. Then if you'd like you can uninstall IntenseDebate and go with whichever comment system you prefer.

Hi Bob. Thanks for dropping me a line about your post and for including IntenseDebate in your assessment.

IntenseDebate is all about making comments useful and bringing valuable comments into the forefront. Our comment voting and user reputations are one of the ways we do this - it's one of our solutions to help you cut through the comment noise and bad poetry and help you easily find quality comments made by credible commenters.

IntenseDebate commenter reputations are based on the number of comments made, but more importantly the number of times their comments are voted as being worthwhile or not. Each commenter's reputation is immediately visible and is located right next to their avatar so you don't have to go digging around to find it. The comment rank is just to the right of the reputation. Add in our filters to sort the highest rated comments to the top and IntenseDebate makes it a piece of cake to find the good stuff.

Our reputation system will be getting a major overhaul based on our community's feedback sent to us directly and voiced in our Get Satisfaction forum. We've always got our ears open.

In regards to your concern about IntenseDebate being an Automattic Joint now, rest assured IntenseDebate will always be platform agnostic. The only things that have changed (among others) are that our system is more secure and scales better than ever, we can guarantee that we're not going anywhere, and we've got some really innovative enhancements coming down the line with other Automattic products! Add access to a massive userbase and it's a great time to give IntenseDebate a try.

I hope you don't mind me hopping in here. IntenseDebate supports nofollow. With our WordPress plugin we output the WordPress comments in the noscript tag so if you had nofollow prior to IntenseDebate it will still be nofollow.

That's very strange Randy. We don’t touch the .htaccess file. We might generate a little bit of load during the import, but it's not anything significant or severe.

While I don't really know what happened exactly, it's extremely unlikely that ID was responsible for the issues with the .htaccess file as we never use it or touch it.

Hi Michael. The htaccess file went kablooey and the whole site went down with a 403 forbidden access error. I had to call my host and they had to rename the file. Since ID was the only one doing anything along those lines I assume that it was the import process that left something running that eventually corrupted the file.

Of course, I know only enough to make dangerous assumptions so ... am I wrong?

All I know is that the problems kept multiplying like before and my readers (along with myself) get frustrated. I am also losing comments in the back and forth. I want to be of help but ... I don't want all the problems either.

My hope is that you all can get this worked out because I love your parent company. Let me know how I can help without crashing my blog :).

Randy, what do you mean exactly by your blog being down? We have had no down time. Was there an extended load time? Please let me know. Again, the plugin is in the beta stages, so we'd love to know about any bugs that you encounter so that we can improve it.

Hi Michael,

I was having duplicate comments reported here and only half of my comments imported. Also, there seemed to be a cookie problem as well.

I loved that you came here to follow up. It does sort of speak to another issue that I was concerned about (not upset) which was your customer service folks. No one has answered any of the above questions over at "getsatisfaction.com"

I love Intense Debate's look and feel but it was starting to take over my weekend with problems. I really don't need that. I know since Automattic has acquired you all that it should be a good fit but I am not seeing it yet.

If you want to fix it with my blog ... great. I just don't want to lose comments or have downtime for my commenters.
