One thing I've been pondering lately is the closed nature of the twitter directory. There is user info just floating out there (it comes with the tweet when you pull from the API) but there is no access to the user directory itself... Twitter really does appear to be trying very hard to be open with developers, but I wonder if this is their "ace in the hole"

Re: Twitter limiting followers to 2000 (Scripting News)

This sounded like nothing but good at first, but I then realized the odd predicament it would put me in if I ever reached 2000 followers (not ever likely to be a real problem for me!) The problem for me is that I've always felt it good etiquette to follow most everyone that followed me, so long as they weren't spammers, or site promoters etc. I guess it would simply be an adjustment in thinking, and maybe a reality check for some!

Re: My to-do list for Identi.ca (Scripting News)

I commented below, and made a reference to the service as a protocol. I use that perspective specifically because of the issue you raise. If the service is treated as the protocol in some sense, new bits could be added on that compliment, but aren't required for the service to function. The evolution that followed would be very interesting!

Re: My to-do list for Identi.ca (Scripting News)

I really like these ideas, and LOVE the idea of a Disqus tie-in. I would really like to see comments be handled better, but still keeping things simple at the "protocol" level, if I can be allowed the latitude to call the service a protocol. I like that perspective for some purposes.

Disqus would keep things public, searchable, trackable to an owner etc. I wonder what the next evolutionary step would be, though? Keeping it feeling integrated and not losing threads is important.

Re: Tocaya, Louis Gray, and BeTwittered

BeTwittered Bug squashed.

I've tested the fix in IE, and Firefox. I'll be working through other scenarios over the next few days, but I'm confident that the bug Louis Gray found is fixed up.

Thanks,
Robert

Re: Tocaya, Louis Gray, and BeTwittered

Hi OntarioEmporer,

I've replied to Louis' message below, too. Thanks to his help, I've found a bug. To avoid any confusion, I'd like to state that it does appear unrelated to the original issue in this thread. It appears that this issue would require knowledge of the bug, a specific set of circumstances, and intent to post as someone else.

Thanks,
Robert

Re: Tocaya, Louis Gray, and BeTwittered

Thanks to Louis Gray, I have zeroed in on the security issue. I'm glad to find that it requires a specific set of circumstances to create the issue. Now that I know what the issue is, I will begin working on a fix today, and implement it as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Robert

Re: Tocaya, Louis Gray, and BeTwittered

Hi Louis,

Thanks for the message. I really appreciate you letting me know about this. I'll email you right away. I want to make sure I understand the issue, and then fix it.

Thanks,
robert

Re: Tocaya, Louis Gray, and BeTwittered

As the author of BeTwittered, I'm going to look into this as much as I can manage. It would concern me if a message was somehow altered in transit to appear to be from someone who did not author it. I will say, for what it's worth, the BeTwittered server does not store any personal information at all (besides the normal web traffic logs)

Anyone who has any concerns or information about this issue that could help out, please contact me directly at robert@arlesnet.com.
Thanks
Robert
