Certainly not a ghost town. I follow about 180 people and receive ~80 tweets an hour. That being said, I do agree that it should decentralize. Many people have an Idea for a XMPP based system where people would register with Twitter (to avoid name collision) and then subscribe to the nodes they want. The Twitter public timeline would then be handled by rss. This would take the strain off of Twitter and put it where it belongs, the heavy users. I think this is the only way the service can continue to function.

Re: louisgray.com: Disqus' Downtime Reminds Us of Woes for Data In the Cloud

Ah memes. I love 'em. I must admit though that the meme of the day, worries over data stored in the cloud, is getting on my nerves. The cloud has always been here. All these services that people are referring to as the cloud are only one small part of the cloud. The cloud is built into the design of the web. Almost all websites are hosted by one company or another. By using services like Disqus we are merely storing different parts in different places. This is not a new idea. This is not a bad idea.

Re: louisgray.com: RSSMeme is the Authority on Google Reader Sharing Notes

I use the "Note in Google Reader" bookmarklet as my primary means on sharing. I may not always add a note but I love the functionality of this little bookmarklet. One reason I do add notes is a method of saving my comments. I like to have backups and alternatives. This way even when Disqus is having trouble, I have a method of archiving my contributions to any sites content. I plan on starting a weekly recap of my aggregated web activity as a regular feature on my blog, so I need this data. Also, from a blogging standpoint, I think sharing these things in as many places as possible is a good networking habit.

Re: Don Dodge on The Next Big Thing: Amazon, Twitter, Disqus down. The cloud has been here all along. Unless you have your own privately housed server, your data has been floating in the clouds. My thinking is that if I use the cloud in every way imaginable, i.e. all my comments on Disqus and CoComment (which is something I try to do) then I will have he data somewhere. As opposed to maintaining all my data locally and losing it in a house fire. The cloud is insurance. Do you have enough coverage?

Re: Money Should Never Motivate You

I think what many people are overlooking is that the author is successful, because she followed her passions. Even if you have responsibilities (like me) you won't find real success until you follow your passions. You might find financial stability but you won't be happy. As a result, you and the people you love will suffer for it. I hold down a regular job (that I hate) but recently have really started doing what I love (writing) and I'm happier for it. It should be noted that I make a little money from it, and that gives me some extra satisfaction. You can be happier too, all you have to do is devote some time to your passions. Who knows, in time your passion may supplant your j.o.b., or it may just make you a little extra cash. Either way you will be happier, that in turn will make you a better person, friend, parent, or whatever label it is that ties you to your loved ones.

Re: Twitter Is Working on Groups

I stated in a recent blog post that I use Twitter primarily as a memtracking utility while many people use it primarily for communication. Once I decided I liked your article, I went and found the ads and clicked on them. I do this on every site that has a post I like without fail. I found your site through Digg and found that article nifty (dugg) but what I found most interesting was your domain. Until then I was unaware of the .name TLD. So right away I went looking for how to get one. I found FreeYourID. My reason for commenting on this post is that it was your first on this blog and I assumed that it might be your first on this domain as well. You seem to have everything set up just how I want it, i.e. your sub-directories (/blog) work. Mine do not. I'm wondering if you can give me some pointers. Do you use a custom name server or the one provided by the company? Anything you can tell me would be a big help.
On an unrelated note, I love your blog and I'll be adding it to the blogroll on my site. Hopefully it will send some visitors your way.

Re: Notional Slurry » Personal brand: red hot, with a smell of burnt flesh

Wow. I think it is a sad statement about blogs in general that I’m always so surprised by how much your writings make me think. With all the posts out there about “personal branding” this is by far the most interesting I’ve seen.
Being human, rather than a brand. What a nice idea.

Re: Rands In Repose: Comment on Sweet Decay

Thanks for this. Notebooks reviews are often a little dry but I found this great. I guess it has to do with the purpose of the notebook. If you use a notebook for your shopping list many things just don't matter. If you use one as an index of thought and memory then your interaction with it needs to be as seamless as possible.

@MURPHY:
I take whatever paper I want, whatever size, weight, and color, then sew it together and bind it by hand. It takes about a day to build the thing, but it's got more character oozing from a single corner than anything I've bought premade. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the idea.

Re: ze's page :: zefrank.com: rational triggers for the emotoself

I ask myself two questions: "What do I want out of life?", and "How does this[current issue] relate to my goal?". Doing this has allowed me to avoid conflicts with others and worry over all most everything because the answer to my second question tells me how to proceed. The answer is almost never to fret or argue, as those two things only hinder any goal. It took time to get in the habit of asking these questions but since doing so I've been able to diffuse any number of situations and simply go forward.

On an unrelated note here is a link to 000Webhost an awesome company that host my site (php/mysql and cpanel included) for free. They have been a big part of helping me achieve my goals since they have given me an outlet for my thoughts.

Re: Effectively Establishing Your Web Identity

Rather than splitting things between two blogs you could use some combination of tags and css to split your blog into two panes. Something similar to what I saw yesterday on one of those annoying web snapshot things. It had the option to disable the boxes for one link or all links, this page or all pages, just for today or permanently. You could give them a register link in the settings (that opens in a new window please) and tell them that if they didn't want to register with Disqus that the settings would be cleared when their cookies were deleted. That *should* satisfy everyone and bring more users to Disqus.

Re: Disqus

Threaded comments rock btw. I don't know if this is a problem with Disqus or with my site.
2)My avatar doesn't show up. I don't know if this is a problem with the pic or what. Disqus is supposed to have Gravatar support but I use the same image on Gravatar. :/ Perhaps Someone who knows more than me can clear this up.
