I tend to use twitter for networking within my town. For instance, I've found an incredible amount of really cool people here in Phoenix, that I might not have ever run into. And on top of that, I've found a huge amount of resources through them. I think its social-blogging, more than just micro-blogging. IM + Blog in a way. I am guilty of having a lot of @replies lately on my account, and I'm not great at DMing. but yeah, i think if you look at it as a combination of Blogging + Instant Messaging, I find it's easier to make progress with finding it useful

I'm on there too, I just always have duplicate entries when I'm using things like Hellotxt and stuff, but otherwise I think its great. Especially the "invite" group, where people post when they have invites to web 2.0 beta sites and things like that.

It's a good resource tool, definitely.

what do you think about audiobooks? Do you think its simply the act of reading, or the act of taking time to learn something, or to get more information from your daily life?

I read books, and then I have a 90 minute ride to work where i try to listen to audiobooks.

Just wondering what you think the most important aspects of it are.

I get this argument as well, and I've used similar explanations.

What I don't have an answer for is people who say "you think you're smarter than me because I believe in god"

which...I mean...I have no nice way of saying "Yes. Yes I do. You live with delusions that in any other form would be considered ludicrous."

I guess, for me, people can understand the idea of being friends with someone you don't share a viewpoint with, but have a harder time understanding thinking badly of that person regarding a certain part of their lives.

I suppose the "hate the theism, love the theist" would be a little too much like a "hate the sin, love the sinner." argument?

Anyway, yet again, fantastic writing sir.

You know what might be interested, and help firm your decision in either direction, is consider what is most important (and realistic) for you to have happen in the next four years.

What issues are the most important and in need of immediate attention. (For instance, I don't really see Obama's view on gun control having any relevance in the next few years, I doubt much will happen with that, given everything else going on)

So then, doesn't it seem like our rejoining the world stage is an immediate need. Doesn't his view on the war seem more important (for the next four years anyway) than the handling of illegal immigration? (Though it IS important, I'd rather have a new energy policy with safe nuclear plants being built again before anything else)

Maybe if you look at it that way, in what is most pressing for us as a country, you might see the benefits of voting for Obama to ensure there is no such thing as a President McCain.

I hope you didn't think I was pompous when sending you emails!

I use md as my signature and name for a lot of reasons.

I hate my last name. Dudlik. Its terrible. (dud-lick. not dude-lick, but still bad)

I dont use all my initials because then i'd spell out mad.

I think its just a shorthand that can simplify things. I will sign
Mark on first time or more formal emails, usually.

Ive been consistent enough with md that some people just call me that offline now too.

What I would find more pompous is people who use their entire names (and have numbers)

I think you are discounting the equally (and probably MORE) relevant issue of sexism. Couldn't you argue everyone who votes for Obama is a sexist too? I don't see this line of reasoning leading anywhere, or really having much ground to stand on.

Sadly, I think whoever wins, its going to be the other side claiming their particular type of bigotry as the cause.
