I finally got Disqus to work on my blog and I'm loving it. @danielha on Twitter is a developer there and was super SUPER helpful.

You can set the options in wordpress to only apply Disqus to posts with no comments already (and of course all future posts). I'm not sure if there's a way to import OLD comments in but they're not gone, they're still in your db.

I had a conversation with my husband last week that was pretty much exactly your point. The NY Times might as well have told people that working will kill them - no direct correlation. Pretty irresponsible journalism in my opinion.

Anyway, reputation management is rightfully high on your priority list and it's really disappointing to see that the person who can actually do something about it isn't responding.

Isn't there anyone else at WordPress you can contact without going straight to Mullenweg? Maybe the problem is that he has passed off your issue to someone else more involved with day-to-day issues (or should have passed it off to someone like this).

I've found that SU traffic is good only in the sense that it gets people there. For someone like me who's mostly looking for exposure at this point, I don't mind casting a wide net to catch only a few fish :)

Maybe if the statistic is left out at the beginning of the pitch there'd be more room for the meat & potatoes of what the service really is. I like this one a lot.
