what's with these kinds of posts Michael? have you not heard of white privilege within the LGBTQ community? or the rampant mysoginy and transphobia among many LGbutTs? i dont agree with their desire to close the center, but why dont you do some serious inquiry into why people of color within the LGBTQ community are marginalized. this is a valid complaint. notwithstanding your personal history, you're still a white man with privilege, you ought to know better.

but more to the point, you're posts are reeking of anti-Palestinian bigotry. you need to do some serious examination of this and a warning: i won't allow ANY ANTISEMITISM on my blogs. and that includes anti-Palestinian bigotry.

am i clear?

agreed. but i think a lot of people of color are reacting to resentment when they say, "well, we've been dealing with police brutality forever". i dont see the violence as the same. i actually think it's worse for our communities because it serves a different purpose --our lives are criminalized on a daily basis. it's the way to keep POC "in check".
with #OWS on the other hand, i see the violence as an immediate affront to a threat they think is close to terrorism. so i think the violence serves a different purpose. i dont see it as the same.

am too busy RTing stuff from Libya, Bahrain, Wisconsin and Puerto Rico to go on a tech tangent with the morons at Twitter but am also flabbergasted by the nastiness, the arrogance of basically disabling an app without any warning and then telling people GO USE OUR IN-HOUSE APP NOW.

i wrote that this had to be about money and money alone. i mean, HOW DARE THEY SAY ONLY AN INSIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF USERS ARE AFFECTED. how dare they call us users of those apps insignificant?

i have a StatusNet site set up and will have one for the blogs, but the API issue still remains: they can basically cut the OAuth chord. which highlights the biggest issue: "twitter power" isnt about just the technology. it's really about the concentration of people. the stickiness. the issue is how to federate that in a powerful way. StatusNet figured out the technology. i haven't really figured out the social stickiness of the medium :P

so you're saying let's go back to networks pre-internet? 'cause that's how THING.NET used to work before the web and "teh internets".

the cost is immense and the issue we have already paid with our taxes for the infrastructure these companies have literally stolen from us with their bogus TOS. the internet is a public utility that has been left on the hands of the kleptocracy. if they want it all, they should be paying tax-payers back for the privilege --not the other way around.

my only quibble with Disqus is that i can't customize how tweeted comments appear on twitter. they could so easily become the dominant tweeting platform if they just cleaned that formatting.

yeah, i've been chewing on this for about 5 years now, to be honest. but now that am doing work on the new types of servitude that are emerging out of the digital age, this "legacy activistm" stuff is getting clearer :) we really need to pay more attention to the 13th amendment if we really want the 14th to truly work.

that's the one i totally was sure i got wrong but i didnt. i cant even remember exactly what the Great Awakening is to begin with (being Catholic and not from the US, it's really not standard trivia for me).
