I came across your site while doing work for Tropicana via New Media Strategies (we do a lot of the digital PR for Tropicana/PepsiCo). Glad to be able to bring some sanity to all the Twitter posts flying by in the next few days and always enjoy working with the JESS3 team on projects like this.

Really like your work as well ~ especially your header.

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions on how it works, etc.

All the best,
Leslie

Communications Manager
New Media Strategies
www.twitter.com/leslieann44

"We're not red. They also regularly read tweets on air during these events.

http://dnc08.c-span.org/
http://rnc08.c-span.org/
http://debatehub.c-span.org/

Would love to discuss further if you are interested. Glad you are enjoying the C-SPAN Hub coverage and thanks again for getting me your post (as well as in touch with William Bittner). From a non-content perspective, it is a very interesting examination into how a video becomes "viral" -- bloggers start posting it, folks online start emailing it... you and @bbittner then Tweet it out to your networks... the cycle goes on and on.

Anyway, back to it!

FWIW: I also just read your headline on CSPAN2 at 8:45 PM EST. Wanted to also note that another local firm is involved, New Media Strategies, as we update the site around the clock MANUALLY (working with bloggers in Denver/from afar, online communities, media makers... you name it). With my connection to both NMS and JESS3, this has been an incredible project to say the least.

As for C-SPAN being "boring" it all depends on where you are coming from I guess. Personally -- client aside -- the fact that they don't go on and on with punditry and let me make my own decisions is awesome. And there is no other network out there that covers as much of the political process as C-SPAN. Definitely give me a call if you would like to discuss more -- I tried reaching you earlier today but know you are swamped with the impending Social Ad Summit.

Here are what a few bloggers are saying about C-SPAN (public affairs network) VS. TV networks...

"Ignore Convention Pundit Blowhards; Watch C-Span" http://pjnet.org/post/1853/

"It's good that we have C-Span and Internet options to get a direct feed of the convention" http://thebluevoice.blogspot.com/2008/08/democr...

"best view of the convention was the one unadorned by punditry and available only on CSpan" http://longlivethevillagegreen.blogspot.com/200...

"...mid Leach speech, switched over to C-SPAN coverage and was met with roaring approval by the bloggers." http://bdevine.wordpress.com/2008/08/26/c-span-...

PS: I am also on TV every night sharing what is hopping on the Hub :-)

Best Wishes,
Leslie

Community Manager, NMS
President, JESS3

Re: A Picture Per(fect) Day - You know you’ve made it when… FTW!

Look at you, front-pager! Guilty as charged on both accounts: I love words and C-SPAN.

So, I happen to be catching up on my reading and saw that both you and Jimmy rocked a post about the project, can't thank you both enough. Like I was saying to Jimmy, C-SPAN's mission of creating public access to the political process is solidly realized by online media (something you and I understand well, but something that is sometimes lost on traditional organizations). I am very proud to be a part of this effort from both a JESS3 as well as a New Media Strategies perspective.

You know about the hashtags and whatnot, so should you tweet-it-out, #DNC08 and #RNC08 will shine on through on the aggregation page. As for the rest of the site, let me know if you end up covering anything in particular at either conventions. For now, I just like to go to it and see what others are saying -- especially as folks are just arriving in Denver and getting ramped up for the coming week.

Thanks again many times over :) LAB

Re: Local Design Firm JESS3 Delivers CSPAN Convention Coverage Design

Jimmy -- thanks so much for the coverage! It has been an amazing experience to work with C-SPAN on this, as they are an incredible public affairs brand whose mission is to bring public access to the political process. New to a lot of online media and communities, their willingness to and interest in embracing technologies like Twitter and Qik, as well as link to State and National blogs is as inspiring as it is trailblazing.

Another local shout-out for New Media Strategies in Arlington VA, my day job and facilitator of the project. They have been a great resource and manager of this entire process and am grateful for the partnership.

Last thing, @kyeung... yes, good catch... the first day we still had IP redirects, but now both sites are good-to-go on the domain names:

http://c-span.org/politics/dnc08

and

http://c-span.org/politics/rnc08

Re: The BlogHim Boiz Choir

It was fantastic to see you, and I was very impressed with the effort you and Jen undertook to get to SF. Like where you are going with this -- The web as your platform to be YOU, develop the YOU in a community, and by extension your online efforts then act as a living-breathing CV in a way, but better?! more interactive, etc.

After the call with Nick, I gave it more thought and what I realized is that the most important words to a self brand (IMHO) are more about values than anything else. Words that come to mind are integrity in all that you do, authenticity + transparency (I like using the term "WIZZYWIG" to encapsulate this... get it?), compassion for yourself + others and passion-plus-knowledge/intelligence in the areas you claim experience/expertise. Growing outward from that become a natural extension.

Seems like a no-brainer, but one last thought: Putting the cart (media/promotion) before the horse (authentic value) is a tempting trap, but to be avoided at all costs. While things like gimics, taglines, "networking," blogging, using lots of technology etc. all work for giving voice and outlet and audience to personal brands, they really should be an afterthought for things that are truly valuable and have true worth (what you know, how you conduct yourself, what makes sense given your "trade" and goals).

Thanks again for including me in the conversation and for keeping it going!

L.

Re: I Have a Writer, His Name is Anthony

Nick -- I am so glad you posted about this. You make a number of good points. I have also "squatted" on my own account for months, updating it only when going to workshop sessions on or about new media stuff/twittering. Until just a few weeks ago...

I have taken the wise counsel of friends and colleagues who are active Tweeters (not to be confused with Tweakers) and let these two tenants guide me:

1. Twitter when you are doing something interesting, or have something interesting to say to a friend or your micro community. At a concert, watching breaking news, etc.

2. Twitter AT people, like you would a rolling IM-meets-email convo. This can be endless fun.

I also highly recommend the Twitterberry App if you have a blackberry... great for when you are in lines or on the metro. Easy to update, see what friends are up to, etc.

PS - I am as verbose as they come and if I can do it in 140 chars, so can you!
